Let's be fair to Welker that was not a routine catch. Brady put it on the wrong shoulder and he had to twist and go up for it. Should he have had it? Yeah Its the super bowl and he got his hands on it but it's not like it hit him in the bread basket with no one within 10 yards of him. Reche Caldwell in 06 dropped a routine game ending catch not welker.
It was a routine catch

The offense was not that good either, particularly after Gronkowski went down. IIRC, we had like three WRs in the SB, and one of them was Ochocinco who was limited to some simple routes because he just could not get on the same page with Brady even after six months of practice. Branch was also out of steam and banged up, unable to run down the sideline, basically hanging around 10 yard marker. So Brady had to look for Hernandez and Welker almost on every down, and throw to other receivers only when they were wide open.

The fact that it was a routine catch is all the fact needed to back up the fact that it was a routine catch.
Brady throws away from danger and his receivers make that catch routinely. It was in his hands. Welker makes that catch 99 times out of 100.

IMO Brady's mistake on that throw wasn't so much the throw itself it was the fact he locked on to Welker and the safety knew who the throw was going to. That gave him a chance to break for Welker. Brady probably saw that and put a little too much zip on the ball. The throw was correctly away from the safety but it wasn't well disguised....

What was routine about it? It hit him in stride exactly where he expected it? It was a route he ran all the time and he caught that exact pass 100 times? It was a nice soft gentle spiral and any scrub off the street could catch? No. No. And no. It was a deeper route which welker normally didn't run thrown behind him so he had to twist and jump to get his hands on it. I bet if you threw it to him 100 times he comes down with 70 of them. Should have caught it? You bet. Routine? Or in my mind easy if you like that word better no way in hell.

It was a routine catch

If he was 4 inches taller. Granted it hit him in the hands but in no way was that an easy catch.

If he caught that ball, the Pats most likely won the game. Wasn't there some mic of the refs saying that was the game after the incompletion?

IIRC, that was the year BB fired all of the cornerbacks right before the season started. Bodden, Whilhite, Wheatley, D. Butler and had guys like Slater and Edelman play be his depth.

Look at these awesome quarterbacks who had over a 100 passer rating against the 2011 Pats:

Mark Sanchez
Rex Grossman
Dan Orlovsky

Chad Henne had over 90 twice. Ryan Fitzpatrick lit the Pats up as did Vince Young who threw for almost 400 yards. Incredible.

tell me again how routine it was......prefect throw, right?

DMC and Arrington were top two corners (and got burned more often than not), playing ahead of Molden, Moore and Nate Jones.
Ihedigbo was top safety, Chung was there and I think Sergio Brown.

No, it wasn't a routine catch. I have seen routine catched dropped, this wasn't one of them. The trhrow wasn't perfect, despite how Brady has Papal Infallibility here.

However, when you look at what JE11 did against Seattle, then you realise you have a moment to win the game, or put yourself in a position to win it. WW didn't take that chance.

The 2011 Patriots were an interesting story. They made the SB despite having a last ranked Defense ( Didn't make sense with Arrington, Sterling Moore, Love, Wilfork on the team). Brany had a good season, we also had the dual threat of Gronk and Hernandez.

Guess my question is what we're your expectations heading into that season? Were you bitterly disappointed such a great team could lose?

Nope. Who's "Brany"? The muffin I ate this morning was brany.

Yup, but you're acting like Giselle.
If he catches that pass the game is over. I'm acting like someone who says if he catches that pass it's over and he should have caught it

Man, why is everyone pissy the week before the Super Bowl!

So many missed opportunities that game. The fumbles, the dropped Welker pass, Brady going deep to Gronk and throwing a pick when he had Hernandez wide open for an easy 1st down to get into FG range, Gronk being hobbled, the Hail Mary throw falling inches away from Gronk's hand , the ****ING SAFETY to start the game. That was a very frustrating loss

We should have won that year. Got ****ing screwed on the grounding call. But the Saints were the best team that year.

Secondary was awful in 11. Vince Wilfork basically dragged that team to the SB. Watch a replay of the afcg sometime. Either he collapsed the pocket or flacco hits a 15-20 yard pass. Vince was a freaking monster that post season.
