Well, the Cleveland Browns and I are done. Thanks to all for making this a fascinating distraction ahead of the real thing next weekend.
We made the following picks:
3 - Brady Quinn, QB
36 - Aaron Ross, CB
67 - Brian Leonard, RB
103 - Manny Ramirez, G
Picking for the Browns was tough because they have so many needs, and doing it became a question of prioritising need in the early rounds and trying to find guys who solve long term problems but can also contribute now.
At number three I also considered Joe Thomas and Gaines Adams, but felt that everything has to start from under the centre, and neither of the guys on the current roster are either the short or long term answers. Brady Quinn might be and therefire it seemed like a risk worth taking, although I recognise it as a risk.
Aaron Ross was probably the easiest pick of the four. I knew I wanted to go corner in the second round and I was pleasantly surprised to find him still on the board when I got there. I'd probably have taken him over Chris Houston and Marcus McAuley anyway but finding them gone just made the decision easier.
In the third round it was a toss up between Brian Leonard and Antonio Pittman. This choice was complicated by the recent signing of Jamal Lewis, and Pittman might have seemed a better compliment in a two back system. But I only see Lewis being here one year, and next year Leonard will become the uphill power runner to complement a rookie or a FA veteran who can come in a bit smaller and quicker.
Finally, Manny Ramirez was the best guard left out there. I was disappointed to see Marshall Yanda go a couple of piccks before, but I'm happy with Manny. You can't underestimate the importance of having a crazy, big-hitting outfielder on your OL.
Thanks to Sebman, particularly, for his tireless moderating.
