as has been pointed out, Gainer is a bit of a surprise. I would think that he is #5 EDGE, depending on whether Landry is activated.

But that's fine; we should have no problem getting him on the PS.

One of the best defensive performers in pre-season, but he was always in at the end of games. I'm not sure the team sees him the same way. My guess is it'll be Luketa to the PS if he doesn't get claimed just because he was starting in pre-season. Swinson v Hutchins is probably the choice for the roster and Swinson might not make it through waivers considering there were teams reportedly interested in taking him off the PS last year. Maybe they designate Landry for return, roster both Swinson and Hutchins and postpone that decision for 4 weeks.

Pure speculation on my part though. Roster management is not one of my strong knowledge areas.

Pats should certainly be scouring the market to either trade for some of these deeper teams players or try and get some vets in here. No surprises thus far but they’re in desperate need of depth specifically at linebacker and edge

Fans keeps saying how desperate they are, especially at these positions. Then they trade draft picks for RB and a safety. I’m not sure these fans have their finger on the pulse of this team.

Absolutely agree. I don't think we can Definitively point to any NFL team that can say hey if our Starting QB goes down we'll be ok. It's just not how the NFL works. Starters are Starters and depth guys are such. Teams put thier best 11 on the field not thier best 53.

Agreed, there is no team in the NFL that is so deep they can’t improve at certain position groups.

ADDED: and before we mention that most of the players will be cut, PS depth counts more now as well.

It’s all relative, the Browns probably had more 2nd and 3rd stringers going against Patriot 4th and 5th stringers. 90 man rosters don’t matter as much as the 53 man and practice squad roster.

Just stop. Being waived doesn't mean they're gone yet. Could just be going to the PS.

People have a weird idea that everyone we cut is going to get plucked by someone else’s 53. They always overestimate it.

It kind of reminds me of how we won SB39 with Troy Brown at DB, and in SB46 we had JE11 playing DB as well.

It doesn't always take the shape we think it will take.

The Pats starters looked very good against the Eagles starters in joint practices.

Most of the guys you’re worried about will be working as personal trainers or high school coaches next month.
