Orlovsky's QB trait ranking

I’m not surprised Maye isn’t on the list for mechanics as his are pretty ugly. However, Caleb Williams has no business being on the list.

Caleb Williams and Bo Nix played the same game over and over last year where they routinely played like absolute cheeks for 3 quarters completing in the mid 50s percentage wise and then pulled a bunch of games out of their asses by running around playing street ball in the 4th Q and get credited with being clutch basically because they didn’t have a functional passing game for 3 Qs.

Not sure how sustainable any of that is, to win consistently year to year you can’t play like this and expect it to keep happening, Chicago were always behind and Denver trailed in like 15 games.

Yeah, I'll take QB assessments from Mr. "I Ran Out the Back of My Own Endzone By Mistake" with a truckload of salt.

Actually, Nik, when you take a look at the individual characteristics Maye ranks in the top 4 in most of them except for mechanics, with a couple of firsts, so my question isn't Orlofsky's assessment on Maye, because I thought he was on track individually. I just don't see how all those top 4's added up to #7 overall.

But these "rating lists" are not only very subjective, but meaningless as well...but fun nevertheless, for football junkies like us.

“Poor guy”

It's the new math. I understand Jayden Daniels is upset other people were ranked #5 in certain categories without checking with him, because he thought he owned the number 5.

Regarding "Pocket Presence"........

Does his ranking system only take into account plays when the ball leaves the QB's arm from the pocket and therefore doesn't factor in sacks?

Maye: Most accurate inside the pocket .....when not being the 4th highest sacked QB who refuses to throw the ball away.
On the plus side of Maye's high sack rate is how few yards he loses (47 saks/201 SYL) compared to his peers/sack

Anyway......Potato....Potahto........ESPN offseason swill

Who is "qualified" to assess QBs then? Apply the same logic... if Orlovsky isn't qualified to comment on QBs because he wasn't a good one in the NFL then are you or I even qualified to say he wasn't a good one in the NFL? Because he was certainly a lot better than you or I.

I'm giving a preseason QB assessment the level of analytic rigor it deserves.

Yep, he's a better QB than I ever could be. And I've seen enough from him to say I'm a better analyst than he will ever be.

All fair. I was just scoring cheap points because he didn't rank my guy where I wanted and it's the low hanging fruit.

I do agree that his mechanics are still raw, but it's also odd to see everything he has add up to #7. Feels like bait. But that's the business.

Thankfully, the season is almost upon us.

don't understand Maye getting blanked in the mechanics category... but not going to lose sleep about it...

Maye is probably number one or number two if you went with the cumulative rankings.

Josh Allen has improved a ton on his decision-making, especially from his rookie year, but if he is truly the number one decision maker in the entire NFL, then the NFL has a big problem

Also, it’s very odd that you could be number one in decision-making, number two in second reaction, number two in rushing, but not mentioned in the top 10 for pocket presence. Wtf lol

I think people need to appreciate that Maye is only going into his Third year and is near the top of most of these rankings.

Caleb Williams getting 7th in mechanics is even more wild. His mechanics have always been dogshit. And I really like the player.

Oh, I'm fine with him rating him 7th on his overall list. It is much more fun being "outraged" at a perceived snub, than worrying about having to strive to meet overly high expectations. I thought Orlofsky did a pretty good job breaking down the traits and he had Drake rated 4th or better in most of them, so he isn't the idiot a lot of people have claimed. I blame the guy who added up the trait ratings and put Drake 7th rather than 4th or 5th.

But in truth, the lower the better IMHO. I just want to keep piling on those chips on Drake's shoulders.

When it comes to shoulder chips, I'm not so sure that's Drake's engine. It was rocket fuel for TFB, but Maye seems to run on different fuel. It's still mysterious to me, but fun as hell to watch him operate, both on and off the field.

We're so ****in' lucky. I get why the rest of the NFL hates us

For context, the other team I watch is the Cards since they're local, and damn...two completely different destinies, these franchises
