Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Much depends on the discussion with Vrabel-Moses on how much Moses wants to play this year, instead of retiring.
I'm kindof hoping that they had that conversation well before free agency began, let alone leading up to the draft

And assuming that conversation happened, if the response from Moses was "meh, I'm not sure if I've got it in me" then one would HOPE that Vrabel might have tried to address that by now at least with some veteran RT depth, rather than banking on the draft

So my guess is that Moses thinks he's up to it and Vrabel thinks he is too - but we all know we're playing with fire at age 35

Bottom line is, as you've pointed out, there's a big dropoff for T after the presumptive first rounders go - and even assuming Moses has another full season in him, if we want to draft the RT of the future in this particular draft, that may require moving up

I just don't like the price to be paid, but it is what it is

I'd still put one of the college "have experience at LT but project at RT" guys as my top draft priority so won't complain if they need to move up, but I'd prefer they just take the BPA rather than reach

I think “hope” (or, “HOPE”) and its derivative “hoping” is too wishy-washy. I think the word you should be using is “assume”.

Based on performance thus far it seems safe to assume Vrabel will be doing his job and talking to Moses.

The other thing is that Vrabes might see his conversations with Moses as making solving that problem this offseason less urgent, especially given the draft landscape. He might see the cost of trading up in next year’s draft as less expensive than doing it this year, and of course the concomitant implied choice that it would be a better use of our 2027 first round pick to get an OT than to trade for AJB.

There are 7 OT's that COULD be reasonable choices for us in the top 63. Vrabel will certainly have decided the value of each and they all may be on his board. My suspicion is that only 6 are on his 1st round board.

And, sure, Vrabel will add or subtract "value" based on the player's skill at LT, and at RT.

My point is that if we assume Vrabel hasn't yet had that conversation with Moses, then we can assume Vrabel isn't doing his job

I'm assuming he had that conversation before free agency, thus assuming he's done his job

I guess it's one thing to say "I'll address LT in the draft" if you have a Top 5 pick like last year - when I think the best free agent LTs snubbed us anyways - but not so much at #31.

But if we're thinking that Vrabel has yet to get around to talking to Moses about his future but we assume it will be happening before the draft, that's not a good sign.

I'd feel pretty confident saying that conversation happened awhile ago and we don't need to worry about it happening in the next week.

Agree completely. Vrabel and Co. had that discussion long ago, to think they didn't into assume they are incompetent, and they clearly aren't.

Of course, Vrabel has talked to Moses. So?

So Vrabel is making his decisions about priorities around FAs and draft picks based on knowledge we do not have.

I dare say that they're working with, oh, 10-20x the information that even our draftniks have.
