I am sick and tired of listening to people talk about how Deflategate and the fraudulent NFL accusation about air in footballs is over, and that we should somehow forget about it and move on because the Patriots happened to win two Super Bowls and go 32-7 since the whole thing began with the Colts AFC Championship game blow-out.

The penalty continues to be imposed this year, and the Patriots will be handicapped by not having a first rounder on the team from 2016 for years to come.

The legacy of Tom Brady is tainted but at least vibdicated by the greatest comeback in NFL history.

Stay on the wall, friends.

I think we actually can pick at that position bc we traded for a Seahawks 4th rounder last year and the higher pick will get taken away.

My Pats Fantasy World tells me we will have a 4th round pick in the 2017 and it will not be the 32nd of that round.. Payback is a bytch.

So it's actually worse.

Actually BB would be remiss if he doesn't trade that Seattle pick. Because the penalty states that if the Pats acquire an additional 4th round pick, they will forfeit the lower (numerically) pick. So as of right now, the Seattle pick is the one that will get forfeited. So look for BB to move that pick (hopefully to move up in the early rounds) and then just let them take pick #32 in the 4th round.

This is the reason behind the working of the Collins trade, because if the Browns are not awarded a 3rd round comp pick, then the Pats will receive their 4th round pick in 2018.

Seattle's 4 could either be rolled forward for a 3rd rounder in 2018, or packaged with another pick to move up. Say... our 3rd and Seattle's 4th for a middle 3rd.

The conditions of the penalty specifically prohibit that.

FYI Jackson, Mitchell, Fleming, White, Flowers, Mason, Cardona, Gostowski were all picked in the 4th round.. it is an important round for the Patriots..

Isn't it the 31st pick ... with one stripped away ... not that it matters much ... 1 less player picked before our turn comes up.

A few random thoughts on the fourth round pick. First, an article from today's Herald on the impact fourth round picks have had:

There’s still one more Deflategate punishment to be doled out

On a side note, why do I keep seeing headlines that the Patriots allegedly want a first and a fourth for Jimmy Garoppolo, since that fourth would be lost? Or are the rumors speculating that the Pats would receive a fourth in 2018?

In essence a year ago the Patriots traded away their 2016 fifth round pick in order to be able to retain their own 2017 fourth. At the time you figure there would not be an appreciable difference between where Seattle and New England's fourth would be (six spots, as it turned out).
