OT: Mark Gastineau has Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinsons

I wish him nothing but the best, and I hope a cure is found before he gets too far gone.

The difficult part of any Alzheimer's/Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is one constant is that the tau protein, which is responsible for creating cellular structures between neurons, starts overproducing and bundling up. That would be something that I'm not sure you could reverse. I know nothing about health, though.

Maybe if they could pinpoint which reaction causes these proteins to basically screw with your neuronal conversations they could prevent it. Or if protein levels were back to normal the issue would fix itself. I dunno. Scary stuff..

Seriously, I'm more terrified of this stuff than a lot of things in life. Kills me to see people suffer from it. The people were once gladiators and are now buckling under the weight of repeated trauma far after the fact. Phew....

EDIT: Autocorrect typo changed

One of the few Jets that one would describe as a "great competitor."
Very sad. I wish him and his family nothing but the best.

Gastineau was a total ass clown, buffoon and all-around Sewer Yawk Jester egomaniac.

But I suppose I should feel sorry for him.

"We're hurting too."-Roger Goodell

Got to quote to accurately respond:

Along with Froob, we can picture Goodell reading this online, sipping coffee, thinking: "Another one's biting the dust" then totally forgetting Gastineau in two minutes from moral dementia.

It's in the early stages, but Tony Dorsett has been diagnosed with CTE...they can now test the living. TD was like a mid-sized Ford Ranger doing the work of an F-250 - no surprise his physical and mental health has been greatly affected. What I did not know when he played is ALL the pain killers and recovery drinks and prescriptions they took before and after the game for the poundings. I appreciated this more now.

Back to Gastineau - beyond his decade with the Jets, he also did some CFL and boxing afterwards. Liked to use his head. Tried but could not find anything if he had a CTE test. He's older and wiser, but obviously paying a high price. I pray he does not suffer too much.
