In the Mankins trade thread, it was asked:

who the **** is Tim Wright?

Timothy Wright, h-back, one of the few Rutgers players the Pats missed out on in the 2013 draft. College WR moved to TE with Tampa Bay. 54 catches for 571 yds and 5 TDs as a rookie. College pro day measurables:

6'3" 219 4.65/2.74/1.63 19 36" 09'10" 4.47 7.27

Can't go back, may as well embrace the new guy and enjoy the potential he can bring. I really hope that part of the trade that free'd up a ton of cap space includes McCourty and Revis sticking around for the next 4 seasons.

Next trade: Wilfork for Marcus Cooper. Then we really did get the entire Rutgers 2013 draft.

Joking aside, Wright is an interesting prospect and he put up decent numbers on a team with awful QB play.

54 catches as a rookie TE is pretty damned good. Must admit, I don't know him.

Coach Lovie Smith said Tim Wright "hasn't played as well as he should be playing."
Wright has struggled with drops in the pass game and blocking in the run game. It's a surefire way to get buried on the depth chart. Right now, he's behind Chris Owusu for the slot job, and both Austin Seferian-Jenkins/Brandon Myers at tight end.

Well sounds like crappy deal. A 4th rounder doesn't make me feel better about it.

Marcus Cooper

If they were set on getting a TE in the trade I would have rather seen Rob Housler.

This kid is good. Another 2nd year receiver who played with Revis at Tampa Bay - that helps for an up-close scouting report, and with Logan Ryan and Duron Harmon at Rutgers. This kid is about as well scouted as you can get.

54 catches for 571 as a rookie with a terrible offense is excellent. This kid is taller and lighter than AH. Speed is good.

Versatile player with experience on the outside in college. http://www.scarletknights.com/mobile/roster_detail.asp?sportid=1&ID=4041

If Brady doesn't get killed, this could be great.

Living down in Tampa I got to see a lot of him. He's a very good young TE and can stretch the middle of the field. He's a bigger slightly less shifty version of Hernandez with decent speed and good hands. Not sure why Tampa's new staff was so down on him but I like the kid. I just hope one of the younger guys can step up on the interior of the line.

wait'll he gets axed in final cutdowns

It is worth considering that Greg Schiano was Tim Wright's college and NFL coach and that Tim Wright was therefore clearly Greg Schiano's player, whereas Lovie Smith is Tampa's new coach.

Now consider whether Lovie Smith or Greg Schiano are closer to Bill Belichick philosophy-wise.

Don't take Lovie Smith's criticism of Tim Wright's TE ability as gospel.

He's from Rutgers.

There must be some crazy on-going joke with BB and Schiano.

I posted this in the Mankins thread but it seems more pertinent here:

I must confess to not having seen him play, but what makes a 220lb guy a TE and not a slot receiver. It doesn't sound like Tim Wright is much of a blocker and isn't a threat to play inline.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

That's what I am hoping. Licht and Lovie seemed to do everything they could as quickly as they could to get rid of almost everything Domanik did. With that said I think this is a solid move for both sides.

There was talk amongst Tampa's staff that they would make him a slot receiver apparently.
