PATRIOTS NEWS 2026 Training Camp - Week 1

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
No, the rumor that Boutte wanted out.
This one confuses me too. That was the "rumor" but there were direct interviews a month or so back with Boutte where he very plainly stated he wants to remain a Patriot. I really have not seen anything negative said by Boutte at any point, it has all been "this is behind the scenes" type commentary or people just assuming he would want out because of lack of targets...

It's very possible there's not actually any problem at all. I can imagine the Pats would be willing to move him for good compensation to better themselves and also give him a better opportunity at a future contract, but since there have not been any good trade offers, there's no incentive to move him. But, he doesn't seem like he's demanding to leave either and was a solid participant in minicamp so I don't really know if there's even a problem in the first place.

I mean, Doubs is bigger, taller and a better athlete. He’s played with a lesser QB, had to battle better WR’s for snaps and posted better stats… but beyond that there’s no evidence.
You've misrepresented both my words and my intent. I didn't say there's no evidence. I said I hadn't seen enough to automatically kick Boutte to the curb before he gets a chance to outplay the new guy.

Not expecting anything from Van Vooren & Wilson. We have so many ~6'1" 230lb-ish LBs on the roster right now.

Again, for some reason the local media around Boston seem to hate the dude. Always gonna get cut, always gonna get traded etc etc. Then he burns Stingley AGAIN for a 50 yard TD in the playoffs.

They never learn. The dude missed voluntary parts of camp. He has never said he wants to be traded or anything. Why would he?

Like I’ve said all offseason… just because you don’t know the backups, that doesn’t make them bad.

It's not that any individual player is bad. We don't know.

Sort of the point.

If a first round pick is your backup It's a much higher probability of success than a group of risks. Yes we all know the games have to be played. But how do things look NOW?

There's always group of similar risk players behind the first round pick anyway.

Sure. Even a lazy mediot could suggest that Boutte would rather play elsewhere.

What does it take to believe that Boutte would like to be traded to a team that would make him a #2 WR and give him the opportunity to play more than is likely here? Surely, Boutte was disappointed when we added Doubs AND Brown, and this after drafting Williams last year.

I would think that this still the situation. That being said, the team has choices. Also, I don't think that Boutte is in anyway a problem for the team. He is an asset.

Well according to Wozzy, Boutte being gone is "a done deal", so it must be so

Obv he wants to play, and is eyeing his next contract.

So there is a school of thought that he could want more opportunities to show his skills and maximize his next contract, which is all conjecture.

There is also a school of thought that what better place to show your skills and maximize your next contract by staying in an offense you know, with a team on the rise with a QB who excels at what you do best.

Injuries happen, gameplays change, Boutte will have opportunities to show of his skills HERE in 2026.

If he is as good as he thinks he is then he will get that opportunity in New England by earning his snaps. Plenty of room on the field for Brown, Doubs, Boutte and Williams to all be productive.

I just watched a segment on Zolak and Bert today, and they quoted a couple of times the Pats had 5 players with over 50 targets in the same season. And one season Watson had 49 targets as the the 6th leading targets.
There will no doubt be opportunities for Boutte to show his wares here in 2026.

Boutte getting 2025 Doubs targets (85+) is getting 2026 Doubs money
Boutte getting 40 ish targets in 2026, is not

the Pats would need to get extremely creative, given the money they have spent this offseason, in order to sign Gonzo this season, sign Maye next season, and still sign Boutte

sigh

An extension to Gonzo would likely be a $5M addition to the 2026 cap. His hit for the 2027 cap is already $18M, so maybe another $10M may be needed then. There is plenty of cap room to sign who we want. The open issue is the value of Boutte to us in 2026 and in 2027, both as a receiver and as insurance.

You don’t have to kick Boutte anywhere, he wants to get paid. What we’re seeing is the result of the free market. Nobody is to blame.

You pay for surety and production, otherwise you develop it cheaply. You can’t have it both ways.

Agree.

That's why every team lacks depth in some area.

No one can afford surety at every position, but where you can't you are thinner.

Not where you have good prospects. It’s funny how nobody looks at offensive tackle as thin despite all unproven drafted players on the bench.
