OT: The 2026 World Cup Thread

It's a huge win for England. Mexico are a good team and were in excellent form.

This British usage drives me bonkers. "Team" is a singular entity; hence, IS a good team that WAS in excellent form.

Yes, it’s been a great WC, and attendees have only good things to say about the Hosts, the people.
Unfortunately Trump is doing his best to kill all the good will that’s been built from real
life experience of the foreign fans.
Dude. Stop.

As a non-American I think the FIFA ruling stinks. Cannot let political bodies influence independent sports rulings. Opens a huge can of worms. I guess Englands players red card should be suspended. FIFA just reminded everyone they are one of the most corrupt organizations on the planet.

You would crap your pants if I ever told you the tale of college football....

Dude. Stop.
I’m not sure what I’m supposed to stop.
However this is getting political so I won’t comment on it further.
Onto the game, good luck to the US tonight, and I mean that with sincerity.
Belgium hasn’t looked great, I expect a US win.

England should protest the red vs my Mexico now
As a matter a fact every team advancing should protest every red

Starmer just petitioned FIFA to not change the start time of Eng-Mex. England has used all its chits already

If the criteria for a red card as used against England was equally applied to all, then most games would be reduced to 3 on 3 by halftime and potentially goalie against goalie by the end of the game.

Done last year for Ronaldo, 2/3 games of a red card suspension were cancelled (red card was in WC qualifying).
Did the Prime Minister of Portugal call for a review?

And you care about what the rest of the world thinks why....?
The whole "city upon the hill" thing falls apart if the rest of the world doesn't care to look at us as a beacon.

Agree, and I can't blame them.

Why is any politician impacting the games at all?

Come on people, if Obama had pressed to allow the Broncos to use a suspended player against the Patriots in AFCCG, and the NFL complied, we'd be livid!

?? That's a clear red card. Sliding tackle, studs up, makes contact with the shin. I've only ever seen that receive a red card, never a yellow.

Seems like ordinary Europeans and others coming here are having a mighty fine time and looking upon the US quite favorably

Can you explain the specific criteria for giving a red card? It would seem reserved for a blatantly intentional foul, but the ones I've seen in this tournament appear incidental involving both players going for the ball. Referees relying on slow-motion replay before passing final judgment makes things even murkier, especially when freeze-framing things that appear completely innocuous real-time.

Ja It’s all good. England’s right back, their weakest position, got a red card and is gone for the next game. And he was already a sub for an injured starter. And now they face Haaland.
I think the Brits was „not so Bad“ intent Wise (accidental Hit); but on the physics was a clear decision, particularly as he was coming in frontwards and aggressivere playing ball & could clearly see the Opponent. [IIRC his foot went over top of Ball & then Cleats Struck on Opponent Shin as a result of not hitting Ball Square/Hit too high. ]

Baldogan was jumping and coming down backwards (where he cant see) and landed on the Opposition Player who also jumped for Ball/tried to Play the trajectory of the Ball. So clearly there was no intent or aim for that Spot of ground with his foot (just Gravity working here) & he let up as soon he could-felt contact.
