Jacas

He hasn't played a snap. Why are people on this board so quick to write draftees off before they've even been on the field?

Exactly.

No one is writing off Jacas. But the longer it takes for him to become an active participant, the less likely he is to have an early impact.

I find his situation confusing. If delay is holdout, he needs to be signed. If it is health, he should be present and visible even if non-active.

The Pats moved up to get him aggressively, and 6 weeks later nada. He is losing valuable time compared to other draftees.

My guess is the team know what they're doing. I'd rather he recovered fully from whatever ailed him than risk a recurrence of an injury while practicing without pads with many more practice sessions to go.

I hope you are right. The total lack of any clarification is part of what throws me for a loop. Apart from showing up at rookie minicamp and not participating, Jacas seems to have gone into a black hole, and there has been little discussion of his situation, none by the team. It's weird, and spooks me a bit.

I want Jacas to succeed spectacularly, and I'm certainly not writing him off. But I will feel much better when I see him signed, present, and participating.

There is certainly nothing here that a 16 sack rookie season can't fix.

The media doesn't seem to be v concerned though just repeating a Mike Reiss blurb about a hamstring.

Jacas apparently (1) injured, (2) post surgery. and (3) a holdout.

Hope he's the second coming of Lawrence Taylor, or at least Dwight Freeney.

Yep, especially because it cost us 3 players to acquire him.

Do not like early-round trade-Ups.

As of today, who would you rather have?

1. Gabe Jacas at 55

2. Keyron Crawford/Dani Dennis-Sutton at 63, Kyle Louis at 131, and VJ Payne/Jordan Van den Berg/Micah Morris at 202

I really hope Jacas turns out to be a stud, because that's a fair amount of quality and depth to pass up.
Jacas at 55.

I would have considered Crawford my next DE after Jacas. Louis would have been a nice addition but as far as the other three, I'm not sweating missing out on players outside the top 200. Likely better players acquired at those positions in 2027.

Perhaps, but that doesn't help us this year.

Jacas looks healthy according to this Twitter post that shows him doing drills.

I have a feeling this is all about the contract. Once the Patriots have signed him, we should expect to see a healthy Jacas in training camp.

I know they might be worried about his injury but they drafted him anyways. If the medicals are that worrisome, why would they MOVE UP and take him with a 2nd round pick?

Perhaps the patriots rate him as a very, very good player, perhaps even end of 1st round quality fully healthy.

But why pay a premium, if anything at all, to move-up for somebody whose newly-revealed, more extensive medical issues were now more likely than not going to continue to send him falling, perhaps all the way to #63? There were much more reasonable deals to be made at 58 & 60, though by then I might not have bothered anyway...

I note that what we are discussing is your opinion that the team could have secured Jacas at 58, 60, 63.

I agree that this is possible.

I'm OK with Vrabel's judgement that Jacas was worth a 4th instead of choosing another EDGE rusher.

All Jacas has to do to make it all moot is win DROY.

The Pats were apparently aware (per Bedard) of multiple medical issues, and that Jacas would miss time "getting healthy", and chose to trade up for him anyway. I'll trust their judgment for now, and hope they will be vindicated.

That said, the sooner we get a healthy Jacas signed and participating, the better.

Vrabel and crew are not shy when it comes to injuries.
