PATRIOTS NEWS 2026 Patriots OTAs - First Open Media Day (5/27)

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
Larison had a Redshirt year... where's the Jam??

A UDFA pickup last year, Larison missed virtually all of his rookie season due to a foot injury but served as the Patriots’ RB3 on Wednesday ahead of Terrell Jennings and rookies Jam Miller and Myles Montgomery.

Gonzo not at OTAs. Not surprising but again, I would ship his ass out. If I were the Patriots, I ain't interested in paying a CB who has injury concerns 40 million dollars. Let some other team do that.

Freaking Boutte beat Stingley clean in the playoffs. Gonzo shut down a slightly overrated JSN. Yes JSN is slighly overrated and I am more scared of some other WRs in the NFL (Chase, Jefferson to name a couple).
I like Boutte but I remember Stingley stuck to him like glue.

"Kayshon Boutte UNREAL ONE HANDED TD CATCH VS DEREK STINGLEY"

Is this really Drake, and if it is does he look a little overweight to anyone else?

After seeing actual practice clips, I think Drake looks great from a physical standpoint. Clearly added some upper/lower body muscle, nothing crazy. Probably could use one or two more off seasons like that as his body fully matures. Then shift to more maintenance/some TB style training and prioritize incremental mechanics improvements

It’s been a year so it’s hazy to think back, but at the start of last season Douglas was clearly their choice in the slot. After Drake ignored the slot entirely early in the season, Douglas moved out of the starting role. But later in the season Drake and Josh started exploring the slot a little and Demario was more productive in the second half of the 2025 season, both in terms of volume and efficiency.

  • First Half (8 games): 14 receptions, 162 yards, 2 touchdowns, 11.6 yards per reception.
  • Second Half (9 games): 17 receptions, 285 yards, 1 touchdown, 16.8 yards per reception.
Although he scored one fewer touchdown after the midpoint, Douglas nearly doubled his yardage output and significantly improved his yards per catch average in the second half.

The contrast in performance is especially clear when examining big-play capability and first-down conversion rates:

Douglas recorded more than twice as many 20+ yard receptions in the second half and converted 64.7% of his catches into first downs, compared to 42.9% earlier in the season. He was much better in the second half of the season and developed a role as a third and long converter.

He has the most talent for the position, he’s a near impossible cover in space due to his size and explosiveness. He was the only WR who was getting open in the Super Bowl when the game was still a game. They need to train Drake how to exploit the middle of the field and work on his short game more than fix something wrong with Pop.

I wouldn’t put too much credence on who was starting or why we didn’t see more rookies with the first or even second units.

In the beginning rookies start at the back of the line in drills and need to prove they deserve to go earlier. This is how it works.

Also don’t put too much stock in Drake throwing an INT or two, like @mike_usagisan said… he started last OTA’s by peppering the field with errant passes. Now during install is when you should be taking chances, testing limits and making mistakes.

On Announcement Day
I was listening the the Pats Chat podcast and Doug Kyed was saying that the Eagles can't make the AJ Brown move until AFTER June 1. So, June 2 (the next open media OTA) is the first time AJ could be with the Patriots, if the trade happens fast.

I like Boutte but I remember Stingley stuck to him like glue.
Stingley is a first team All-Pro and he did that to everyone. On the other hand, Boutte came into the playoffs and played really well in his first two games, 7 catches on 9 targets for 141 yards. With the weather bad, our passing game disappeared in Denver.

What do we make of OL Andrew Rupcich taking reps as a starter and not Caeden Wallace?

Not sure but its day one of OTA's I think its too early to come to conclusions

Thoughts on a Myles Garrett for Gonzo trade... Gonzo's value won't be any higher...what else would we need to send Cleveland?
