PATRIOTS NEWS 2026 Patriots OTAs - First Open Media Day (5/27)

Breaking New England Patriots Team News

Pop has the build of a player who SHOULD be good in the McDaniels offense, but Maye has not loved throwing to the shorter guys. If they can improve that this year then perhaps Pop can be a solid piece this season. Needs to work on his balance but he has underrated speed, would be able to rotate in at Z/slot and be a gadget player.

Brown is the X, then Doubs and Williams are probably primarily Z/slot, though both can play X. Hollins is likely the inverse, where he is primarily a rotational X who can play the other spots when needed. So your top 4 have good depth covering all the spots. Then Pop plays mostly Z/slot and reverses, sweeps, things like that, which is fine for a 5th guy. 6th guy, if there is one, likely needs to bring special teams value to be a game day active.

Patriots OTAs is in the books.Drake Maye: 13/22 INTTommy DeVito: 7/12Rookie CB Karon Prunty intercepted Maye. Good plays in coverage by Charles Woods, KJ Britt, Kindle VildorAndrew Rupcich filled in for Alijah Vera-Tucker at LG. Caleb Lomu got some first-team reps in place of Morgan Moses at RT.EDGE Bradyn Swinson went off with the training staff.

Did MASH unit get hurt at the signing?? I am leery of that signing.

Backup LG is suddenly a spot to watch in camp.

Pop Douglas = Practices like Tarzan... plays the real games like Jane. Watchout! Turf Monster. I think Pop will be Traded no room in the Inn for him.

From making the most to the least sense:

Makes sense:
- WR Kayshon Boutte: We know he wouldn't be there with the Brown trade pending.
- CB Christian Gonzalez: not risking injury while working on an extension. I am guessing this is a short term thing.
- CB Carlton Davis / WR Mack Hollins / EDGE Harold Landry: Older veterans, something you see pretty often. Kinda thought Hollins would still be around but not a big deal.

I get it, but still:
- EDGE Gabe Jacas: I believe he hasn't signed his tender, so not expecting him to practice, but would still be good to see him around.

WTF Bro?:
- WR Kyle Dixon: Where you at? How are you gonna push Chism if you aren't on the field?

AVT was out all last year with an injury that he is still coming back from.

Is Hollins still healing from his injury last year? Landry, too?

Backup LG is suddenly a spot to watch in camp.
With Garrett Bradbury gone and Wilson replacing him as a relatively inexperienced player, I am guessing they want Ben Brown to primarily be the backup C and only play G if they have big problems. So there will definitely be room for other guys to find roles at backup G, especially with AVT probably missing a lot of practice time and a lot of reps to go around.

Oh bwoy another Landry type signing.
Landry was doing well until he had his injury during the season. The more frightening comparison is Juju. But there's no reason to think he won't be ready.
