2026 Draft: EDGE

Yes. I've posted the Luke Fickell connection many times.

Coached at Cincinnati, currently at Wisconsin.

He's my alternate if Jacas isn't there.
I would be happy with either, but think I prefer DDS and he should be available 20ish or so picks later…. maybe more.

Agree. I like Jacas, but I prefer DDS, and he has a very good chance of being available at 63.

31. Max Iheanachor.
63. DDS.
95. Sam Roush.

I would definitely take that.
If somehow Bell or Hurst get to 95 (doubtful, but have seen some mocks where it happens) I would go WR. Now if we are in fact trading for AJ, then my sentiment would be overcome by events, so TE at 95 would be fine.

If they are trading for AJ Brown then you'd be missing 31 or 63 (or whatever, hopefully not both) so then TE at 95 is definitely not ok for me.

The Pats aren't trading for Brown with picks from 2026. The Picks would be from 2027 at the earliest since Brown won't be traded before June 1st.

I'm not saying you're wrong but hat's not the proposals that I've seen. They are a mix of both years. In fact the Titans talked about a pick from both years with a pick from 2026 coming from Philly. I would doubt they would want 2026 picks from us (end of the round) but nothing is certain except the the heavy cap hit pre - 6/1.

I thought we had come to the conclusion that an AJ trade would be post June 1. Picks traded would be 2027.

Not sure how the Eagles freed up so much cap space, but it's showing that they could eat the extra 20M by trading Brown before June 1st.. But it would leave them with 9M for their draft picks, 52/53, their practice squad and injury replacements for the resst of the year.. which isn't much at all..

So, while possible, it's highly unlikely. Which means they won't be seeing 2026 draft picks in a trade. The NFL doesn't allow "Player to be named later" type deals.

I willing it to happen.... For the Cowboys, Browns or 49ers.. As long as it's NOT the Pats... *GRIN* Sorry Manx..
Suspended ban!*

*Because you like Jacas.

Are you calling DaBruinz a Jacas?

Ban!

Here's may layman's take on the DE prospects in this year's draft:

  • If we are trying to fulfill the immediate need of an impact pass rush specialist we should be eyeing the proven bendy speed guys like Howell (short arms notwithstanding) who know how to get in the backfield in a hurry, but might struggle against the run
  • If we want a more well rounded DE who is stout against the run then we need to figure out who among Young, DDS, Jacas, and the like, who are high motor power players who can set an edge and defend the run, also have the upside to develop some bendy-ness and a pass rush repertoire which will likely take time to develop.

So imagine some games in the 2026 season, with Dre'Mont Jones on one side and a rookie on the other. Obviously in my book, the ability to defend the run always comes first, but in today's NFL all the metrics are about the passing game.

If it's 3 and 12 in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. Would rather have Howell or DDS in that situation?

I'd rather have Jake Golday, a 3-down player who fills a big hole at LB while providing the speed off the EDGE that Howell provides, with much better length.

Mike Vrabel has emphasized the importance of versatility. Golday is among the most versatile players in the draft.

You also can't cherry pick situations. I would take DDS over Howell any day, but that doesn't mean there would never be situations in which Howell's particular forte wouldn't come in handy.

Cashius Howell does 1 thing well, and has no versatility. There may be situations in which he might be the preferred option, but that doesn't outweigh his limitations, IMO. He's not on my board.
