I'm Confused About Posting In Some Threads While Avoiding Any Political content.

I miss the days when politics was about good governance.

Now it's so much about the personalities of the politicians.

As a geezer, to me the turning point was in the 1980s or so when CNN started doing Crossfire.

Before that it was what we would now call "policy wonks" having civil discussions.

Once it became a shouting match, it was more about entertainment than anything else.

I'm pretty amazed how some pretty smart people I know are so absorbed by the behavior of some of the stupidest people in our society.

I have no idea why they find such people so engaging, entertaining, or whatever it is that makes them even bother to know who they are.
While I agree with your comments, the divide for me came in Bush's second term. During his first term, there was civil discussion about what to do about 911, and general support for the war-time president. Also, Medicare Part D (prescription drugs) was passed).
By 2004, everyone was shouting from their political corners.

The NFL promotes "Don't be a douchebag" messages. Not even because they necessarily believe in them (plenty of the people running the NFL are douchebags), but because they're popular. Why are they popular? Because most people don't want to be douchebags and don't like douchebags.

So, in short, if you have a problem with the promotion of the idea that we shouldn't be douchebags, then yeah, I can see why you would have a problem with the NFL pushing that message.
It doesn't have anything to do with that. The NFL has decided to become political and promote mostly left wing political messaging. With all the things I mentioned in my previous post.

Well, I'm the closest thing to ************ around here so I must try and I can prove it:
1. I can drink wine like its water
2. There but for the grace of God go I

Thank you.

Some fish sandwiches just appeared out of nowhere, enough for my wife and I plus the neighbors. Was that you?

It's called being greedy and inclusive. The last thing the NFL wants to do is bring politics in to the NFL.They want as many fans paying $ as possible.

Pretty much. The lion's share of Big Shield's 'social awareness and messaging' was negotiated with the NFLPA. It isn't political it's bu$ine$$ right down to negotiating what Big $hield spends on it. Believing anything else is either a matter of extreme naivety or blissful ignorance. The league's faux social conscience was negotiated with the NFLPA to keep the help from acting out and getting publicly uppity with the kneeling and what not. Bu$ine$$ 101, it's hard to sell apples from an immobile apple cart so give that dumbass horse a friggin' carrot and get him moving. We got apples to sell here the yacht needs upgrading

Nobody likes to admit that its really the peoples fault the govt has gotten so far off the rails...

If we are guilty here of anything its being a "bit" bread and circus.

However its a football forum.

I like the no politics policy here.

Politics in america are garbage, and we all get enough garbage takes in life and other places on the net.
Everybody says politicians suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don’t fall out of the sky. They don’t pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It’s what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you’re going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain’t going to do any good; you’re just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it’s not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here . . . like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There’s a nice campaign slogan for somebody: “The Public Sucks. **** Hope.

-George Carlin

The translation of the words was pretty pornograhic. Not appropriate for a SB halftime show.
So what is appropriate if Prince, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Lady Gaga, etc., can't be shown because of pornographic content?

I hope they yank it. I really do. If the League is going to screw over their loyal fanbase, they would be getting what they deserve.

I think I’m with you on that. Although I’d like to know more about what it means for the NFLPA and their CBA. I’m not entirely sure but IIRC the salary cap depends on the antitrust exemption, and losing that would upset the apple cart in a big way. I’m not sure that screwing the league and also screwing the fans is a positive move.

1980's. That's about the time news departments started getting run by the Entertainment division of media companies and civil discussions between policy wonks, were replaced by those pro and con shouting matches simply because they were viewed as being more entertaining.

Not coincidentally, Newt Gingrich first emerged in the ‘80s, following his election to the House in 1978. I blame him for a lot of the political polarization. I’m not alone. Here are some quotes from his Wikipedia entry:
In March 1989, Gingrich became House minority whip […] He said his intention was to "build a much more aggressive, activist party".

A number of scholars have credited Gingrich with playing a key role in undermining democratic norms in the United States, and hastening political polarization and partisan prejudice. […] They argue that Gingrich instilled a "combative" approach in the Republican Party, where hateful language and hyper-partisanship became commonplace, and where democratic norms were abandoned. Gingrich frequently questioned the patriotism of Democrats, called them corrupt, compared them to fascists, and accused them of wanting to destroy the United States. Gingrich furthermore oversaw several major government shutdowns.

University of Maryland political scientist Lilliana Mason identified Gingrich's instructions to Republicans to use words such as "betray, bizarre, decay, destroy, devour, greed, lie, pathetic, radical, selfish, shame, sick, steal, and traitors" about Democrats as an example of a breach in social norms and exacerbation of partisan prejudice.

So, I blame the salamander…

Id say the U.S. makes it another 20 years until full meltdown...
please define “full meltdown”

and for extra credit explain how to distinguish it from present day reality.

Or are we talking the full dystopian Mad Max world?

Will even that take twenty years?

Ah, the original Crypt Keeper who really does know where the bodies are buried. Born in 1819 in the Australian Outback he has climbed out of the crocodile swamp to the supra-elite. A croc once told him eat everything including the bones and thus, a star is born.

I never got the Bad Bunny thing. It was a freaking halftime show. It was 15 minutes out of your life. If you don't like the guy, go to the bathroom or get some food. Who cares if you don't like him or his politics?

Ever since Jay Z and Roc Nation have taken over the halftime show, I have been mostly disinterested in the show. Not for political reasons, but because the artists are not my cup of tea. That includes Bad Bunny. I loved Dre and Snoop's performance because they are old school rap that I listened to, but I still cannot name a song from either Bad Bunny or Kendrick Lamar.

Bad Bunny is an example where political discussion was more manufactured than real. That is the worst kind of political discussion.
I don’t know any Kendrick Lamar, I just know I’m taking the Drake side of that beef

Things became bad in the US when the Southern Democrats, died off and most of the southern states became republican. Before that there were in essence three political parties, Republicans, Democrats, and Southern Democrats. Both the Republicans and the Democrats had to play somewhat to the center to convince the Southern Democrats to vote to their side. After they died off, the first president who really figured it out was Obama, who realized it was an all or nothing game, why coddle to the other side when all it did was piss off your extreme constituents. Either a 0 or 1 no longer a 2. Presidential elections are a bit different because you are trying to attract the independent voter, but other than that it doesn't matter. Trump got that and does it just the same. It is unfortunate and really kind of silly. I called Ken out on it about gas prices. One side was extremely happy when gas was $4 + a gallon when Biden was president, oh cool it will force us to buy electric cars, while the other side was pissed. Now 2 or 3 years later gas goes up to $3 a gallon and the people who were happy it was $4 are now pissed it is $3, and the people who were pissed it was $4 are happy it is up so we can destroy Iran. Ken never complained that gas was $4 a gallon on here, but now at $3 a gallon how are people going to survive. I have spoken my piece, the reason it shouldn't be on here is now it is black or white, all people do is argue their side. Trump could cure cancer, or make Cuba a democracy and he would still be pissed that he put all those cancer Dr's out of business. So why bring it here. Leave it somewhere else.

You, literally 2 posts before this one (Or as the kids would say, "This you?"):

So you're a Welsher AND a hypocrite. As to be expected from the ****kicker who gets all their news from facebook, I suppose.
You know nothing and are a *****.
