I'm Confused About Posting In Some Threads While Avoiding Any Political content.

I thought it had to do with his confusion of when to dance in a thread.

So you're thinking MG might simply be striking a pose as opposed to being a poseur? Striking a pose may no longer be en vogue but I'd still prefer to think that was the intent, let's go with it.
Thanks gents, it's nice I have folks here that can be counted on for clarification.

I hate Politics and ALL politicians
I am Working Class and pay a lot of taxes and get NO representation from any of them
So I am glad when these posts are deleted when they turn political
But I get what you’re saying. Just saying I would rather have a TE than a WR can get edgy

Seems as if one's political views are gray the whites call you black and the blacks call you white.

Especially when they should be calling us, old.
"The Rockers call us Mods and the Mods call us Rockers"
-- maybe someone in The Who

"I'm okay if I don't die before I get old."

One only has to do a deep dive into the Epstein files to realize “politics” is just a show and fake as pro wrestling.

Bankers rule the world, set policy, politics is just theater to make it seem palpable.

There are also some on both sides that will consistently try to slip in low key political sniping, keeping it below the threshold of action while spreading their political toxicity as a kind of environmental pollution. Things like referencing gas prices along with a snide “thanks Biden” or “thanks Trump”, or mentioning Epstein or TDS. That last I don’t get, as it was originally used by Trump’s supporters to dismiss any criticism of him, and then his opponents started using it to denote the irrationality of his cultists, so now it triggers both sides. Makes as much sense as anything political these days I guess.

Anyway I'd personally love it if the mods starting taking a very hardline stance about deleting anything with those lowkey political swipes. Especially now with the recent demonstrated volatility on all sides non-football references should be rigorously scrutinized and kept politically neutral if allowed at all. I’m a strong proponent of minimal moderation so it pains me to say this, and I hate asking mods to do more, but people really need to control themselves and if they can’t corrective action is needed. Unfortunately it’s gotten that bad in here recently.

Zero tolerance.
This stellar site exists for all Patriots fans to share their Common Ground: being Patriots fans. Whether you're so-called homers,
chicken littles or anything in-between, doesnt matter. We're from every different kind of background there is, from all over the U.S. and the World.
Its an  escape from things like politics.
I don't give a **** what your political views about anything are, even if I agree with them.
I don't want to see them here. Its an insult to the rest of us to post that crap.
That includes responding to someobe who posted politically, no matter how sick what they posted was. The only response any of us should have is " keep politics off the board".
Period. How many times has Ian posted about this?
Besides, political discussions don't work online. Never have never will.
You really wanna political convo with someone who has a different view? Do it face to face, sitting down with a pint or a great whiskey or even a cup of tea if that's your thing.
That leads to both people actually listening to each other. And often, finding some common ground while still maintaining your beliefs...
Or you can just keep being a ****head

I miss the polical forum. That's not to say I don't understand why it was bleep canned. I'm all over the map politically and without violating the TOS and purely for my point I do not align with either party. I did however love interacting with the people who were hard left or right. I didn't have to agree with them and I knew they weren't going to agree with me. What it let me do was understand them better. I had the opportunity to just ask well why do you believe that to be true? After and answer but have you factored in X, Y and Z? And so on.

Plus there were some legendary character in their from Harry to Ms VA and so on.

The NFL has decided to make itself political and push leftwing political messages. So it's just going to make it's way here to football forums. From kneeling for the anthem/American flag, woke halftime shows, to BLM and lgbtq promotion. The NFL puts this stuff on social media, jerseys and messaging on the field itself.

It is sad that we cannot even talk to one another. I guess this the same as folks not going to family gatherings because they want to avoid any discussion of sex, religion and politics. This has been an issue for hundreds of years,

One of the ONLY ways that there will be any progress in reducing extremism and hate in the US is to hear what the other side believes in a safe non-threatening environment.

The OTHER way, of course, is to be examples of what one believes.

Hellavu good job helping to keep politics off of this forum.

Thanks so much.

I guess that I need to stop posting about anything but players, rosters and the draft. Almost everything else can colored by political views. And, of course, this is much more common in that there is almost nothing to discuss other than the draft and we have a truly excellent sub-board for those discussions.

Don't the mods review the threads when they are opened? Aren't the threads approved by the mods?

I mistakingly presume that when we discuss government actions regarding the NFL or our ability to view games is inherently political.
For example, when discussing the actions of the FCC on the NFL and us, I think that any discussion would have political content.

Discussing whether teams should allow or punish homophobic statements comments is inherently political, or religious depending on point of view. As an aside, given that the thread clearly stated the subject, I thought that most of the posts reasonably showed the opinions of the poster.

I suppose the idea of limiting the earning power of NFL owners and top players can be discussed without any political content, but such discussions wouldn't really make much sense without the obvious context.

Even NFL actions to avoid being sued often extends into politics.

And, yes, almost anything being political is part of living in 2026.

I did avoid reading the comments in the Hard Knocks thread since I have no interest in the program.

END OF VENT
back to the draft board!
There's been a bunch of posts in recent days that have centered around political topics and, unfortunately, shifted even further into them the longer they went on.

Obviously, the world is a mess right now and it's becoming challenging just to the nature of how things are. At the same time, this place is meant to be a respite for that while talking about the team and things related to the NFL during what's usually one of the slower periods. But it's still a great way to take our minds off of things.

I get it. The antitrust situation certainly has ties to the federal government, which obviously sparks reactions from both sides of the aisle. Same with a player saying something that sparks emotion with different views. The problem is when it shifts from general discussion and trickles into discussions that are the equivalent of "Six degrees of Kevin Bacon" - nothing discussed can't be tied into something else related to more divisive political topics, and it ignites a more fierce discussion before going off the rails.

I used to let it slide, but we're not doing that anymore. Not in what's an extremely volatile climate. We're all here pulling for the same thing on the field, albeit we've had our share of Mac Jones vs Bailey Zappe, or Belichick vs Brady. But that's not the same as politics, which is far worse for the overall climate in here. And that's why things get clamped down as soon as they start going off the rails. And out of fairness, the rule has to apply to everyone. Granted there are moments where we might not catch everything, but I think for the most part they are dealt with.

But no, threads aren't reviewed when opened or approved by mods. We're like everyone else - we hop into threads, and if we notice something that's political, we try to let it keep going if it stays somewhere in the middle. But as soon as it shifts, that's when it's usually dealt with. I'd prefer we keep it to football. It just is what it is.

It is your site, @Ian .

Personally, I’d allow a political forum with no moderation except for seriously illegal stuff. We all have the ability to ignore/block anyone on here.

But that is just me.

It’s been over 25 years, I’ve already been down that road and it makes people hate each other for reasons unrelated to football. It brings out sides that kill relationships between people who otherwise got along great up until that point. It just doesn’t work.

All I can say is this is a very interesting thread, and also add that when things veered towards politics, it’s allowed people to know where others stood. I take that as a positive.

The basketball player who got cut sucks and is injury prone. If you’re barely hanging onto the roster, nobody wants to hear from you.

If you’re Tyreek Hill the team’s security apparatus and local police department will run cover for you after you break your son’s arm in a domestic abuse situation. If you’re Michael Jordan or Shohei Ohtani you can get caught gambling and your respective league will lie and cover it up for you.

Short answer… don’t suck, and if you do keep your mouth shut.
Sneaky important nuance. If Gilgous-Alexander, Tatum, or some other star said the same thing they aren’t getting cut and it would be spun as “playera are entitled to their beliefs”.

Dude sucked so it was an easy way for the team to virtue signal.

These teams are businesses.

Case in point, down here the Hawks literally had a “magic city” day and jersey…a friggin strip club.

Lost a lot of fans.

Probably gained some too.

Different avatars and they made a business decision

Yep. I have a cousin that had to cut off one of his cousins on the other side of his family because it got so extreme how furious she would get to a simple, tame joke he would post on Facebook. Anything political topic went off the rails rapidly. He finally told her she was family, he loved her, but it was best they don't interact anymore, and blocked her online. (She lives on the other side of the country so it wasn't like they had to avoid each other in person)

Nit-picking, but I think there was "Obama Derangement Syndrome," and "TDS" got coined in more recent years. It doesn't matter. Whichever name-calling one likes, none of these schoolyard taunts are the Pulitzer-winning literature their enthusiasts seem to think they are. Jesus, I just self-censored the phrase "Nobel-winning." Out before I cause it.
