Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Ya, I can see this being Boutte's last year. And we probably already saw Pop's last year last year.
But, I will not stand for us taking a WR in the first 2 rounds. It will be a bust, no matter what.
We need an EDGE and either OL or TE in the top rounds.
Maybe mid-round WR, but rookie WR's don't do anything in JMD's system.

IF they trade for AJ, we should give Boutte & a '27 2nd.
AJ, Doubs, Williams, Hollins, Chism/Pop + Rookie would be good.
I'm not saying we need to draft a WR high, but I think it's a bad idea to avoid the position altogether because of past failures.

First off, what's the statute of limitations for that? Does every coach and scout employed at the time of those bad picks need to be retired from the NFL before we draft that spot high again?

And if we apply that same energy to avoiding players from a college with very little NFL success at the position they play, then Drake Maye shouldn't be a Patriot, and Patrick Mahomes shouldn't be a Chief.

Right, still a stupid take. Lets argue that trading away a 6th rounder could be Tom Brady, do you really want to get rid of Tom Brady?????
Right.

Because getting a Gonzo at #17 is a plausible possibility, while getting Brady at pick 199 is a once in several lifetimes possibility.

Apples to bowling balls analogy.

Its kind of a loser mentality to not a trade a pick because you are worried you might be bad this year. Yes it could happen due to many factors like injuries, which happened to the Commanders.

I just dont like the idea of a team coming off a superbowl loss thinking they cant get back there again and holding on to their picks for fear they take a step back when that trade could have been the difference in winning a few games.

Not claiming you have a loser mentality or any slight against you.

I would move Boutte in this possible Trade: that should bring down the asking price some. Plus Kyle William should a better X who takes the Top off the D. So that leaves A.J. Brown - R Doubs - KW - Barefoot and a Rookie. Pop Douglas and E Chism need a all world Offseason and TC to merit any considerations.
Boutte has the clutch Gene something no patiots WR has had since Jules...

Hear, hear.
And altho Wolf is still here, BB had ultimate say.
He really struggled to pick WRs in the first couple of rds.....and he's no longer here!

Agreed 100%... from what I can see.. Vrabel's been very intentional with reinforcement of the line of scrimmage.. offense line and defensive line.. we project to be a physical running team offensively wich will open up things for the pass catchers..

100%, and which also means our WRs will face easier coverages with defences having to respect and play the run and force more bodies closer to the LOS.
So do we need Brown?
Maye should have better protection, a better run game, and and thus a better play action game.
Going with what we have and a draft pick could very easily be enough.

I know Twin but that shows how far we have fallen in that area.

Agreed!! You hit it spot on. We don't "need" but the opportunity has mmaterialized where we essentially likely have him already.. So... to your points.. I like the smash mouth physical running game wich will make life so much easier for guys.. the WRs, TEs, and I expect Gillaim to be targeted some as well.

Where AJ helps you is the red area contested catches and he's a match up nightmare against man coverages... he also a physical blocker..

I know twin... this is what years of draft bust after bust will do to a team..

What happens when a Team Stops the run?? A QB like Drake Maye on a predominant Running Team?? Yeah right I think it will be more of a mix which = balance.

It's always a mix.
So you think if a team stopped our run (which will be harder to do this year and require more defensive bodies), that we don't have pass catchers, and won't add more in the draft?
Brown will make us better, but your insistence that we can't be successful without him is flat out wrong.

Insistence our WR situation since Edelman retired have been abysmal. Look how decent it was last year with Diggs who's passed his glory days. A.J. Brown is going be 29 by the time the season Starts. A WR can produce up to age 32: which age 29 is three years from.

So (the WR Cult leader) you want to move arguably the best WR the patriots have drafted since Julian Edelman? That was in 2009. Why? He's just 23 yo.

AJ will make us better, I said that.
We can succeed without him.
Do you not see that?
If we had a top 5 run game, drafted a WR and an athletic TE, you don't think we can be a good enough offense to win a SB?
AJ is not the be all end all.

You and others are just hung up on losing a First Round pick: We are not getting A.J. for less than a second and maybe another pick at the very least; that's why I would throw Boutte in to sweeten the deal.

IF we had A.J. Brown we would say Boutte who?? Yeah and I really like Boutte but no more than A.J. Brown who I liked over molasses Harry in 2019 no thanks to BB.

If AJ comes here and underperforms, you're gonna have a lot of explaining to do.

Harry is not in the equation. Send Douglas in 2026 with 2027 draft picks. People get too caught up in where the WR plays. If the draft was purely BPA...that would not matter. We should build the team through keeping the best players...especially ones that are 23 yo.
