Celtics 2025-2026 Discussion

Last night's loss was another example of "you live by the 3, you die by the 3". Last night, they died by the 3. 13-42 from beyond the arc for a paltry 31% 3-point shooting percentage. PP was the biggest offender, shooting 2-9 (22%) but Scheierman (3-8, 35%), Hauser (2-8, 25%) and Brown (1-4, 25%) weren't much better.
Yeah but they played their assess off.
Toughness, grit. On the road.No Tatum no DWhite vs. the best team in the NBA.
I've never been prouder of this squad than right now.

Chief!!! And no one can say **** to him about it because he will still slap you silly.

Here we go again with Bassey. We had him in the summer league. It's because we lost Vuc and have Garza as the backup. We needed another big insurance.

FWIW, I watch nuggets-lakers over the weekend, and Marcus Smart actually had a really good game. Maybe he's still got a bit left in the tank.

After watching that game against Phoenix, it's almost like the NBA finally looked at what has been going on with Jaylen Brown this season. He went to the line more than any other time in his career. Even with this, there were quite a few missed calls. The only bad thing about this is that they did the same for Devin Booker... well, almost the same. Booker got a lot more calls with minimal contact. The most amazing call was a lane violation. They finally called a lane violation on a Brown foul shot! I couldn't believe it. Neither could Phoenix. They showed Booker laughing about it on the bench.

I think what's happening with Brown is that teams know that the only way to stop him from driving to the hoop is to hack him and hope they don't call a foul. I'm hoping this game was a harbinger of things to come.

Wow! This opens the door for the C's (and those right behind them) to jump up to the No.1 seed in the East.

Celtics are currently 3.5 games back (4 in the loss column). The Knicks are 5 games out.

Edit: I just looked at the remaining schedules for both teams and the C's schedule is tougher, with only a couple of non-playoff teams left to play. So it's a tough hill to climb but being a 2 seed isn't so bad. It can still happen though if Cade misses rest of season.

Edit Part Deux: It seems like he could miss 2-6 weeks, though his diagnosis is on the "mild" side. At least from what I've read.

I just read JB passed both Dave Cowens and JoJo White last night on C's all-time scoring list.
They were the 2 of the 3 best players on that team that won 2 NBA titles. The other, of course, being Hondo.
Those teams were the most underrated great C's teams evah, since they were after Russell and before Bird.
So much fun to watch. Cowens was an incredible player, a 6'8" Wild Man going up against giants like Kareem every night and usually outplaying all the centers except Kareem. Paul Silas probably the best rebounder I've ever seen. Like Cowens, he was tough as nails. JoJo and Charlie Scott an all-time great backcourt.
Hated seeing Westphal get traded but he was very young then and thade led directly to 2 C's championships.
Of course Westphal soon grew into one of the all-time great NBA guards. Those C's teams were maybe the toughest and grittiest of all C's Champs, which is saying a lot.
The current team reminds me of them to an extent. Lot of similarities with Charlie Scott and DWhite. And the 2026 C's also pretty much always play hard.
I don't wanna jinx em, and its still a longshot with OKC and Wemby both out there but if they somehow won it all it might be the most improbable of all C's champions. But that's what the pundits said about the Cowens' teams back in the day, so who knows?

I'm totally with you except I think the Charlie scott/D white comparison might be stretching it.
[Edit] As I thought further, I remember Charlie as primarily a scorer, but I vaguely remember him adapting his game with us... so maybe it fits better than I first thought.

Charlie Scott was a  great defender. One of the best defensive guards in the nba. He was also a very good offensive player.
And like DWhite, he had a rangy build.
So yeah, some similarities.

Charlie Scott was a ball hawk. He had a bunch of steals. Lots of assists. Not many blocks. He's not D White, but he was a great defensive player.

I was kinda bummed out that we couldn't swing a trade for Zubac. After seeing what it took to get him from LA, I was glad we backed off. After what just happened, I'm really glad we backed off.
Pacers lose center Ivica Zubac for rest of season due to fractured rib
I guess the good news for the Pacers is that Zubac was more about future seasons rather than this one - though we would have absolutely been looking to him in the playoffs.

Vooch will do for the time being and I think Stevens even still has the ability to work a trade for a longer term C next season.

I'm not sure even Stevens could have traded for Zubac and remained under the luxury tax the way he did with Vooch and the other trades - which itself is a master class in cap management that continues today as he employs various 10-day contracts until we get to the last day of the season to add a vet for the playoff roster and come in just below the cap.

Some good reading here to appreciate what Stevens has done while Mazzulla, JB, White and the team have kept them near the top seed. My main lament is that Josh Minot was let go for nothing to make it happen, but with the way players change teams now, maybe we'll see him back one day.

After that game last night, I am a little less confident of this team come playoff time. They are not winning games against good teams, even a team like Minnesota, who was missing their best player.

Yeah was disappointing but they're still a work in progress. Tatum will continue to improve as he knocks more rust off and he'll blend better with teammates the more they play together.
One thing that gets overlooked is Tatum's conditioning: you only improve that by playing in real nba games. Hes not there yet.
Plenty of time left to achieve all of the above.

I get that. But what I don't get is that as he gets into playing shape, he still thinks he can iso-ball and it's not working well for him. I said it earlier that this team just might be better off if he didn't come back this year and what I'm seeing is why I said that. Tatum is taking minutes from guys that played their asses off and I'm not sure leaving JT in there to get his game back is a recipe for continued success.

I truly hope that I will eat these words.
