Given this is from Jason Whitlock, unless there is a video or audio of Brady saying what Whitlock claims Brady said, I'm going to remain rather doubtful to the veracity of the report. Once upon a time he was a quality sports reporter out of Kansas City. But for the last twenty or so years he's become just another contrarian that will say anything outlandish for clicks and views, in a feeble attempt to remain relevant. He has become so used to embellishing to such a large degree, for such a long time, that he no longer even realizes that he's lying, and cannot distinguish between truth and fiction.

FFS now we're taking Jason F'n Whitlock putting word in Kraft's AND Brady's mouths seriously???

Could you imagine if Kraft DID promise Brady a piece of the ownership pie if he took hometown discounts? What Whitlock suggests would be such a massive scandal. There’s just no way. This article is full of ****.

If true, Brady’s recent behavior is more understandable
Jason Whilock?? And you believe a nobody like him? Cmon, wtf! Dude has NO sources and even in the article it's speculation. Absolutely NOTHING to see here.

Putting anything about the truthfulness of this article aside, there’s another reason why this wouldn’t be a good idea.

When Larry Bird wanted to get into team management, he made it clear that he wouldn’t want to do that with the Celtics, because he had a legacy here that he didn’t want to be affected by anything on the executive side.

Same thing with Brady, it would be time to move on either way.

Mark Davis sold Brady 10% of the Raiders for $220 million. Kraft sold 8% of the Patriots for $750 million. Brady couldn’t afford to buy a significant share of the Patriots.

And I think you have to own at least 5% of an NFL franchise to be anything more than a co-owner in name only. Under 5% and you are a passive owner with non-voting stake.

Davis was an idiot who sold 1/10th of his team at a heavily discounted rate. The guy had money issues and probably thought that Brady being part of the team would help with their popularity.

If Brady could have come up with the money, Kraft might have sold him a minority stake. Fact is Brady could only afford to buy a piece of the Raiders.

But I doubt Brady even wanted to buy part of the Patriots. Brady has no ties to this region anymore. He seems to only want to be in a place where his kids are or a destination place. He would rather be spending time in Vegas than the Boston area.

Remember when this board unanimously dismissed Dr. Chao’s opinion on Drake Maye’s shoulder.
This board has an overwhelming tendency to lampoon any story that puts NE or its in players in unfavorable light.
Sure…..This latest story is pure theory and speculation, but there are plenty of truths that ,when stacked one on top of the next, certainly can lead to such suppositions.
I had similar speculation on this long before this article.

I’ll add my own two cents…..
Zero chance Jonathon would ever have allowed Robert to sell Brady a slice of the team. The fanbase would clamor for Brady involvement, especially when the fortunes of the team dip, thus neutering Jonathon.
Look what’s going on in Vegas right now.

I SPECULATE that

1) Brady accepted less, hoping to eventually to buy part of the team: to be a patriot forever.

2) Brady discussed a possible ownership share with Brady.

3) Kraft decided not to share decision-making with a former employee.

4) Brady was and is upset.
===========
I have zero issues with Kraft not wanting Brady to have an ownership position on the team.

Kraft is a smart owner. Brady has no experience/training/knowledge when it comes to administering a football franchise, which is worlds different from the role of quarterback. He already has had negative impact on the Raiders while spreading himself thin with broadcasting and other pursuits. We should be grateful RKK did not "cut him in."

1) Brady wants to be a majority owner someday and there was no path to that in Foxboro

Where's he gonna get the $5B for that?
As head of an ownership group of investors, just like he did when his group bought the current 10% stake.
