Keeping an eye on things on my phone and came across this:

Hoping to see a jump from him in year two, would certainly help that room quite a bit.

Take every rep like it's your last. He'll never beat anyone in a foot race with YAC's but IMO he will be very good in the slot, short range, finding seams in the zone, moving the chains.

I don't know. I just feel this video makes him more slow than he actually is and the twitches were not all that great. Probably a very bad selection os moves I guess.

It’s good to see the young fella working on his craft. As a WR6, he’ll have to claw and fight to make the roster out of training camp.

Let’s see if he can make a leap and be a contributor next season; whether it be on STs, as a WR or both. Otherwise, he’ll be shown the door.

Yeah, he’s probably the slowest WR in the league in terms of straight line speed so he really needs to show he can move and work in small spaces as a slot WR. That’s really the only spot he’ll be able to stick in the NFL unless he turns into an exclusive STs player (but he doesn’t have the speed to be a gunner or KR/PR).

He did alright, other than the stumbling, bumbling reception he had at midfield, as his snaps increased. While he has no breakaway speed, it looked like he gets open against 2nd stringers. And he’s a first down machine haha

I hope Drake can help him out by getting past his "Checkdown Charlie" phobia. Drake's biggest opportunity for improvement is learning to make use of the short field and Chiz should be a big part of that.

I'm so tired of these videos. Seriously N'Keal Harry was the master of these offseason videos and then disappeared in the actual games.

Chism just needs to prove it on the field. I like the kid overall but these videos do a 0% job of convincing.

Chism ran a 4.71 yard 40 apparently. He didn't get any quicker overnight.

N'Keal Harry running at full speed...

As I get older, it hurts just watching these guys do drills. I miss the days I was playing sports as a young kid and felt invincible. No kidding when they say "use it or lose it".

He doesn’t need to show it in a video to internet couch potato NFL GM wannabes.

He just needs to show it to Vrabes and his coaches, on the field in OTAs and camp.

Yeah, the videos are kind of pointless other than for hype.

Chism’s in the same boat as most camp invites…fighting for his spot. Let’s see what he shows in TC.

I am not a Chism fan, and hope I am wrong. I understand the difference between quickness and speed, Chism is quick, but not fast. His kickoff returns were painful to watch.

What I do not see acknowledged in Chism threads is that if a player can not run past a defender because they are too slow (like Chism), it is much easier for the defender to crowd the offensive player to limit their quick twitch separation. Although Edelman, Welker, and even C Kupp, were not fast guys, Chism is the slowest of them all.

I have also seen it argued that only the 10 yard split is important for a slot receiver. Although there is some truth to that, if the defender only has to worry about 10 yards the defensive assignment is much easier. For example, I think M Jones can easily shut down Chism, and that is the type of defender Chism will have to routinely defeat.

For the 1000 Chism fans on PatsFans, please don't read my post and think I am attacking your first born child because I am not a Chism fan.

I think Chism returned kickoffs because coaches trusted him to both field and not fumble the ball. But yes, he lacked the speed needed to do anything beyond that.

IIRC he caught everything when targeted, although four receptions isn't much of a sample. He did show well in the preseason but right now is a fringe player until he proves otherwise. The WR camp competition should be interesting, especially if a rookie or two enter the mix and/or Brown is pried away from Philly.

I agree. Let's hope we draft a 6th round slot guy to compete in camp.

Really not sure where he stands. Yes, he's slow, but he seems to be a pretty good blocker for a WR, and he seems to be too strong for most CBs guarding him to tackle solo.

Plus he had 4 catches for 95 yards, which is nuts given how slow he's supposed to be.

It's almost like playing speed beats straightline speed.
The thing is that his playing speed was also noticeably slow. Like One-If-By-Sea pointed out a few posts above, his kick returns were painful to watch. That’s why he lost the KR job after 3-4 games.

If you lose your KR job to a JAG like D’Ernest freaking Johnson, well, you’re on thin ice as a WR6 if you can’t play STs.

The reality is that he’s gonna face an uphill battle making the team this year as I’m sure we’re going to draft at least a couple of WRs to compete for WR4 thru WR6. Plus we might still bring in Brown before camp starts.
