Yes, any transactions for an individual player warrants its own thread. A lot of casual people who scan the board looking for news may not have time to dig into a thread, so those should be on their own.

A quick point: ERFA tenders, like RFA tenders, are not guaranteed.

Point of information. Any Tender (RFA, ERFA, Franchise Tag) can be rescinded up until the player signs. Also, as mentioned, RFA and ERFA contracts are not guaranteed. So the player can be summarily cut without consequence.

I’m wondering if he may be back to TE next year, with Gilliam being added and Lampe coming back from his injury. Or at least playing more TE as well as FB. Now that Hooper is gone the TE position is thin.

True, but he was a good Soldier. He threw himself on grenade when Lampe went down and took on a fully new position. Yeah, he sucked as a FB and will probably end up w only a 3-5 year PS nfl career as a TE, but now that he can be a TE on PS maybe he gets a couple call ups and shows more there.

Signing is Good for him money wise….. no need for other folks to hate, he gave what he could, it just wasn’t enough.

I think we could put my dead grandmother on the PS as well, her hip is much improved. No qualms, she'll take PS min. She'll play where she's asked. Tough old broad from NS/Maine. Very chippy, borderline dirty. Let's gooooooooo!

Played a ton of special teams and saw a lot of time on offense and provides a decent depth option for a roster that - right now - is also thin at tight end and FB (pending the guys who were on IR). Also doesn't cost them much. If he gets beaten out in August, it's not the end of the world.

He was utterly useless. A FB who can’t block and a TE who can’t block or catch. If he was a ST “contributor” I must’ve missed those contributions.

So yeah he blows but I’m sure is very cheap and there has gotta be a better option. He’ll he cut or PS. TE in the draft please.

So, why is that he wasn't cut and another player signed from one of the 31 Practice Squads? Why was he active if he was useless? Lots of other team don't have fullbacks.

Yes. You clearly missed the contributions on STs.. But most people expect Westover to be replaced on Special Teams by Gilliam.

Westover was a pass-catching TE in College who had played a whopping 2 Games at FB in HS.. He was learning the FB position last year. He was far from "utterly useless". Yes, he could block. Not very well, for the most part. Which is why they signed Gilliam. As for catching, he was targeted all of twice. With 1 catch and 1 drop. Not exactly a plethora of data to make any sort of determination.

Doesn't mean the Pats won't double dip at TE in the draft. Just means that the Pats control where Westover is playing, for now..
