Patriots Rumor Tracker / FA Signings (Updated: Signings in OP - 4/7)

I’ve just never seen us actually sign a veteran guard over the last several years. It’s always been a neglected position.
The Pats signed Wes Schweitzer last year but he chose to retire before camp.

It's not always been a neglected position..

I do not understand why we could not keep Tonga other than being cheap

It's not a matter of COULD. It's a matter that he backed out of a deal at the 23rd hour and wanted more money and the Pats said "NO."

Also, the Pats already have 6 DTs in Barmore, Williams, Farmer, Durden, Taylor, and Gregory. Not to mention Pharms who is likely to be on the PS again. Farmer played well until his injury. And that opened to door for Taylor to come in and show his stuff.

Agreed.. Farmer dealt with some injuries last season but he came on as. Rookie and is a sturdy presence in the middle.. I expect him to have a bigger role.. also solid rotational guys in Davis and Gregory.. Farmer is the guy who can do alot of what Tonga did.. now we have a real FB so Tonga wish him well in KC..

Who is Davis?

The Pats DTs are currently Barmore, Williams, Durden, Taylor, Farmer, and Pharms..

Thank you

But it is, one opened in Shrewsbury Mass within the last year, a couple from Shrewsbury grew up going to the Ground Round, they contacted the Ground Round and informed them they would like to open a franchise, they were approved, previously there were only three left in the country, three in North Dakota and one in Ohio.

Yeah, I've gone past it a few times (I live in Worcester).
I haven't been in there yet though.

Doubs and Okonowo would be a nice pair of signings today IMO.

Doubs is an outside receiver who's shown some ability downfield but specializes in intermediate routes and has some chain moving ability to him. That works well with Boutte who has really been more of a downfield guy since Maye took over. Not saying he's a #1 or some monster, but they lost their most productive receiver in Diggs and their #1 playing time WR last year was Mack Hollins even before that so there's definitely a need to fill in snaps here with proven production. Many people tout the idea of KWilliams' development replacing Diggs, but the truth is any improvement from him should have already been ticketed for eating into Hollins role because he just flat out shouldn't be WR1 in terms of playing time. So even if KWilliams develops like we all hope, still need someone to take a heavy WR snapload because we should be looking to replace Diggs since he's gone AND Hollins since he just shouldn't be a high playing time WR.

Okonkwo is a versatile move TE which can fill in some of the gaps for those slot-type routes that they let go with Diggs as opposed to last year where we played with two in-line TEs in Henry/Hooper together. Still leaves us without a strong blocking TE out of those 2 TE formations, but you become more versatile in the receiving game. Last year, even with 2 "receiving TEs", our 2 TE set didn't have a ton of route tree versatility. Henry and Okonkwo would be more complimentary in terms of the ways they can attack the defense in the passing game.

You clearly don't understand how Comp picks work.
Over the Cap does an excellent job on the comp picks. Here is their running total so far:

Of course, these picks will be awarded about a year from now, and can change in an instant. I'm guessing the Vera-Tucker signing will wipe out at least one of the projected 7th round picks. They can also get wiped off the board if anyone signs a player for a higher APY (annual per year value). Baltimore is the undisputed king of getting comp picks. If Chaisson and Hawkins sign elsewhere, and the Pats don't make any more big signings, they will most likely garner two more comp picks.

Comp picks are maxed out a 4 a team.

Sorry Maye needs better than what we currently have @ WR: not another #3 WR. Romeo Doubs wouldn't move the needle for me and I like him as a player.

Looks like there is some method to the madness here. A good mix of vets and rookies and I believe this year rookie class will mostly be depth signings and come of age big time next season.

Henry, onwenu, Davis, landry,Spillane ,Moses , hollins replacements will need to come in next draft . Hollins could be the ageless wonder and rack up 3 more years like kelce probably.

Jopibg Bryant and wallace both pan out so that 2027 we will have a solidified line at the lowest cost and can go big on some trades and acquisitions

Sure, I agree that WR would still be a need. But nothing wrong with incrementally improving below if that option isn't out there (doesn't appear to be). I don't want to give up a 1st for AJ Brown and if we don't land him, WR is likely to be a need that gets rolled forward to the draft and possibly next year. That happens. I'd still want to incrementally improve this year.

I'm open to Brian Thomas Jr and Romeo Doubs I want both. Thomas Jr would be great here: that would be a very nice WR Room for Maye.
