Player Signing Patriots signing guard Alijah Vera-Tucker

It’s also good that they extended Ben Brown, so if AVT continues to miss some games due to injury annually, Brown can step in as a spot starter at LG and be fine.

Having said that, they’ll probably want to draft another guard this year or next year in the middle rounds to develop and compete to have good depth. Onwenu may end up needing replacing in 2027 as well if he is not extended. I might be more inclined to target right tackle first though.
A 4th or 5th round G should be fine.
We need a plan to replace Grandpa Moses probably in 27.

Numbers are in. Definitely real money given here.

He’s a #14 pick who has played at a problem level when healthy. Thats a bargain price assuming his injuries aren’t chronic which I do not believe they are.

Agreed - assuming Onwenu is extended then a mid round G is OK. Moses needs replacement via draftee or signee in a year.

Fun fact: I think there was scuttlebutt that Belichick wanted to draft him in 2021 if he was still on the board with their first round pick. But the Jets traded up. I bet they'd have just run it back with Cam and drafted Davis Mills in that scenario as a project qb.

So base APY is around $14M, that’s very solid and less than I would’ve expected. Very good value, and sounds like there’s incentives for if he stays healthy. Smart business here and they stuck to their principles and didn’t panic.

Yep, the Jets jumped one pick ahead of NE and took AVT. Bill drafted Mac Jones with the following pick.

Agree about Brown. I’m still holding out hope Bryant will develop at RT.

I’ve always wanted to see a double dip at guard, drafting a rookie prospect to go with an established FA signing. We are halfway there.

With Munford as LT backup, and Wallace as camp competition, I think the above would have our OL in much better shape going into next season. Throw in Wills or possibly Jenkins from GB and things get even better.
ONE PLAN
would be to re-sign Munford to fight it out for a backup spot with Bryant and Wallace.
AND draft a future starting RG and RT (or swing)
=================
AS OF NOW (6 is a good start)
Campbell, AVT, Wilson, Onwenu, Moses
Brown (backup C and G)
==========
Wallace, Bryant
fa: Munford
===========
I expect that we will re-sign Munford (or that we already have) and draft two.
==========
We are not even through the first 24 hours. We could still sign a backup or two.

So they have…

- Onwenu, a guard who can flex to tackle
- Vera-Tucker, a tackle who moved to guard
- Campbell, a tackle that everyone loves to talk about moving to guard
- Wilson, a center who moved to guard who moved back to center
- The Ageless Wonder Morgan Moses

I obviously know UGA best so there’s natural bias but Micah Morris is a nasty road grader with upside if you can coach up his technique.

Kid out of Iowa (Not Dunker, other guy) is similar.

It’s a toolsy Guard draft.

Grab a developmental G, T, and I’ll feel better.

Tucker is super talented but has never made it a full season.

If he can stay healthy, very good signing. Thats a big IF though. Didn’t play at all last season. Played LG as a rookie, hopefully he can again.

Wowser! I fall asleep at 11:20 with no more news to sleep on, wake up at 1:00 for no reason, decide to check Patsfans, and get rewarded big time. I guess our front office is worksing round the clock this week.

Tucker is the perfect fit for this OL. Great signing.

Not a bad signing, not a great one either. Very risky. There is a chance that you end up starting Ben Brown for half the season.

this line need stability. if they were ready to pay 14M for a guy that is always injured why didn’t they pay 15.5M for David Edwards who almost never miss a game?

Jones and the FB were good signing but I don’t understand the logic behind this one. Vera-Tucker is a good player when healthy but with the state of our OL I don’t think we were in a position to take gamble like that.

This is a GREAT signing for a reasonable price. The knock on him is his availability NOT his play on the field. It's a risk, but one that is mitigated by the cost. Bottom line we improved the skill level at LG. Now we just have to hope he can stay on the field.

If we hadn't made this signing, my back up position would have been to call for a Cole Strange reunion. BTW- I think he's going to have a decent season for some team. By the end of the year as he got distance from his patella tear, he got better and better. I don't think the Pats made a mistake cutting him. He didn't have a great camp due in great part to his injury. But he ended up being the top OLman in Miami at the end of the season.

Huge if he can stay healthy, one of the better guards in football when he’s actually on the field.

Yep. That's stopgap money and duration.

The pick was David Edward who didn’t get much more than AVT. He is not as good at his peek as AVT but he is a solid LG and he almost never miss a game.

That line doesn’t need risk it needs stability.

That line is still full of question mark. What Campbell will be? Will AVT be able to stay healthy? Is Wilson gonna be a serviceable center? Will Moses finally show his age?

The only stable piece is Ownenu.

That line could be a disaster as quick as it could be good.

Can’t argue with this take, talent is definitely there however his availability is a concern, would’ve preferred ex Bills LG who as you said is always available. Luckily NE has Brown as insurance.
