NFL News Alec Pierce Re-Signs with Colts

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
Pats never had a chance. He wasn’t leaving Indy.
Agreed. I think the holdup was finding a landing spot for Pittman. When that happened, he was going back to Indy. He turned down more money to play with Jayden Daniels to play with a broken down Daniel Jones. OK maybe they are both broken down. It sucks I think he is an ascending player that is getting better and is just reaching his prime, He will be a much better player in the next four years than he was in the previous 4 and those are the guys you want to find. Commanders saw this, the Colts who see him every day saw this and I think the Pats did as well. But they were not going to 30 million but that would not have mattered anyway as Washington did and that did not get it done. This will not be a good thing if they cut Diggs and fail to land AJ Brown or Pierce and that ship has sailed. I was OK with cutting Diggs but I thought that meant they had the inside track on one of these two guys. Maybe they still do, we shall find out.

I would have paid what it took for Pierce because we have Maye. Pierce would be a beast with Maye throwing to him and it would lead to defenses fearing that connection and opening up every other receiver.
Puerces value to us was much greater than his value to any other team.

The trade comp for Pittman was surprisingly low. Pats could have beaten it if they wanted to.

I agree, but our value to Pierce was greater than any other team, and that didn't sway him:

- Opportunity to play for a perennial SB contender
- Opportunity to play for one of the most stable organizations in the league
- Opportunity to play for a player-friendly HC known and close to his college HC
- Opportunity to play with the best young QB in the NFL and best deep ball thrower in the NFL

If Pierce wanted what he claimed, the Patriots should have been his 1st choice. No other team offered him the opportunity to take his game to the next level, become a truly elite WR, and win Lombardis.

In the end, those things didn't seem to matter.

I would have as well, but I am not sure Pierce would have came anyway even if the Pats felt the way you and I did. He is happy in Indy, thinks they were the best team in the league for the first half of the year and thinks they can get back to that. I mean $116 million dollars where you are comfortable and happy versus what to leave? It appears he was never leaving Indy if they made a competitive offer which they clearly did. He was clearly my first choice. We shall see what happens but they might have put themselves in a little pickle cutting Diggs if there are not able to replace him.

They will get more value out of the 20 mill no matter how they spend it than they would have keeping Diggs, not just this year but long term too.

Pierce played free agency like a Statavarios.

He would have been great paired with Maye.

Cest la vie

Sometimes we forget these are humans.
Not that all players feel this way but some truly believe they are part of something special. That they can be the best team in the league if they get a break. Pierce may just love Daniel jones and believe if he didn’t get hurt they would have won the SB. Many athletes have out of touch beliefs about how good they and their teammates are.
Again, the are human, and Pierce may have had a lot of friends on the team, enjoyed living in the community, etc and didn’t want to turn his back on them.
You just never know, but i have more respect for the loyal guy who quietly goes about his job and sticks around to show he meant it when he said TEAM that the guy who goes for the money grab then *****es about not getting the ball enough.

Maybe a contract that sets up his grandchildren for life was more important.

I'm not sure that $112M is
$104M will make much difference to Pierce's long-term financial security. He is very rich by any normal standard.

According to O’dell Beckham that’s nowhere near enough to be set for life

It's the Larry Fitzgerald-Joe Thomas effect. Some players really don't care about winning and like staying where they planted their roots. Can't feel bad for these guys when their teams are perennial losers.

I said a couple weeks ago that it’s very likely the Patriots revert back to a non-playoff team next year. I also told you that Maye had been exposed in the playoffs.

Now we know that NFL players agree.

This is straight up trolling by Drake Silver and yourself.

Are you really that dumb? Posting a twitter report from someone with 1,000 followers who quotes a parady twitter account?

No wonder you root for Buffalo. Can’t fix stupid.
