Patriots Rumor Tracker / FA Signings (Updated: Signings in OP - 4/7)

Worked for the Pats when he was.

They generally didn’t make a splash on day one and got bargains with the leftovers.
Did not work at all his last 4 years h

So to summarize so far:

Alec Pierce: never wanted to leave as long as Indy paid up.

Mike Evans: never pursued.

Wan’Dale Robinson: never was going anywhere but Tennessee

Wouldn’t be too concerned yet. Plenty of possibilities in the trade market. Remember that we didn’t land Diggs last year until a month into FA.

The 3 years prior in NO with Carr he averaged between 15-17 ypc. Yeah it dropped significantly last year in that 11-12 range but could be due to the rookie qbs in NO. It could improve with Maye.
Good points: Carr was a Deep Ball Thrower like Maye: Shaheed was good with him. He wouldn't cost us a lot.

Now I want it to be him.
That gave me a laugh.

From his scouting report though:

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES
Comes off the snap high and upright, and doesn't get to top speed quickly
Does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest. and has had more drops than you would like
Given his ideal size he doesn't like to go over the middle and will shy away from contact
Isn't instinctive getting to the ball in the air can mistime jumps and takes poor angles
Given his level of experience he has never had a diverse route tree and has been sloppy rounding his routes
In the Mountain West he faced a lower level of competition - and so it's a question mark how he'll perform against top-level talent in the NFL

I feel a little better if they weren't actually in on Mike Evans on anything more than a 1-year deal.

He's been in the league 4 years.
He's improved.

Pats were in on Isaiah Likely though and signed a fullback day one. Wonder if they’re more focused on fixing the run game and less concerned about the passing game even with Diggs gone?

There's not much out there this year unless we bring back Bourne and Tyquan.

Diggs was a weird case because he was coming off a serious injury and no one was going to grab him unless they knew how his rehab was progressing. No one out there on FA this year would have that kind of impact other than…Diggs.

Vrabel is a good coach BUT this team will never have a top 10 offense with him as EVP. He just does not prioritize acquiring elite skill positions on the O side of the ball.
The front office lacks boldness and creativity. They are afraid of their own shadow. In a year where they are picking next to last in the draft they could have compensated in free agency.

Unless you think Romeo Dobbs is the answer

Its the truth

They're gonna need better running backs.

It's obvious they're going for Brown. No way around it.

When they don't land him then we can burn this place down.

Did he watch the Superbowl?

Good luck winning without players who can move the ball.

Literally drafted AJ Brown and Derrick Henry.

The Patriots really don’t like Drake Maye.

Doubs is a good, solid player. I don't understand the hate.

Hes probably good enough to be a number 3 on a Superbowl winning team. A number 2 if your number 1 is top 3 in the league.

He's gonna get paid like a 1 though. That's the problem.
