NFL News Alec Pierce Re-Signs with Colts

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
Sucks, but I was iffy on nearly $30MM/yr.

What REALLY sucks is I don’t see much else worth bothering with at WR to give Drake more weapons. I want no part of Brown’s contract AND a 1st. Mike Evans is ancient, no one else really moves the needle barring a shocking trade out of nowhere that surprises everyone.

His wife was from the area originally, it would have taken too much to pry him away. Smart to move on…

5th most guarantees for 47 receptions a season.

Player I really wanted but he's not some generational player or anything and this is higher than I thought he'd get (I had $25-27.5M/year) though hard to judge without seeing structure. Disappointing to me, but not the end of the world or anything I'll throw a fit over.
Pierce was the only FA WR I cared about - for the Pats I would be expecting him to take Diggs 100 targets and and be even more productive while the offense continued to spread the ball

I saw him averaging better than his 18 yds per catch and double his TDs from last year,

At closer to $30 mil that's someone who gets 150 targets minimum and I don't think that's Patriots football in the Maye era

I'm sure they have someone else in mind - maybe a slot receiver and let our existing deep threats do the job they did last season

Not quite the 30m per but close

The full updated tweet says:

Free agent WR Alec Pierce has agreed to terms to remain in Indianapolis on a historic 4 year $114M deal that will make him the highest paid free agent receiver in NFL History. The deal negotiated by agents Mike Swenson and CJ LaBoy, came together overnight and contains $84m in guarantees, $60m fully guaranteed at signing, and a max package of $116M.

The $60M guaranteed at signing suggests it's quite front-end loaded, but as usual, the devil is in the details.

Carly gave away her leverage by using the tag on Jones and ended up over-paying.

This $29M AAV makes him the 10th highest paid WR in the league and there's an $11.25M gap between him and #1. Just want to point that out because inferring this is Rice or Moss money means you might need to recalibrate your contract expectations haha

Expectations? If I ran the Patriots I'm not paying a WR with a limited route tree 29M and after one pop out season while good nothing to run home over.

Thank God Breer managed to fit in the agent's name into the post!
It has become worse last couple years. Signing news tweets and articles, especially ESPN, have become blatant infomercials written for and by players' agents.

Sounds like it might have been WAS who overbid for Pierce, not us.

We will find out soon whether the Pats dodged another bullet or not.

Not upset we didn't get him for his asking price. We need to draft and develop our own WR. Hopefully, Williams and the rest of the young bucks continue to improve. Curious what vet receiver will be added to the group.

That's fine. You're framing this a lot different here. In the post of yours I responded to, you followed up saying that this was too much money by invoking the names of all time greats like Moss and Rice. I'm just pointing out that $29M is less than 75% of the highest AAV for a WR, so implying that someone getting it should be Moss/Rice isn't dealing in the financial realities of today's NFL. You can't realistically think you'd ever be able to sign an all time great WR for that number. Maybe not what you meant, but by bringing up their names that's what you implied which is what I was responding to.
