Celtics 2025-2026 Discussion

The Globe has a good read as to how the team adjusted WITHOUT Tatum and a lot of things remained the same so it may not even be much of an adjustment - more just about letting him work up the minutes.

What has changed is the Celts were third in post-ups last season; now they’re 28th.

I think that's obviously because of the loss of Porzingas and Vooch's offense seems to be a better match to that than Queta, although I love how that kid is developing.

So the main way. see them adjusting is by working in more of the post op which often seemed to be Tatum throwing it in to Porzingas (and Porzingas either taking the shot or kicking it back out to Tatum for the open 3)

So aside from just letting his minutes creep up as he conditions for the playoffs, that's the added dimension for the playoffs that I think we need.

Still crazy to me that Stevens has them under the luxury tax but we STILL have Tatum, Brown, White, and Pritchard and a bunch of young cheap guys who are stepping up and could well be contenders.

What I get from this analysis is this: "They ratcheted up their drives from 36.8 per game last season to 46.9 this season, and dialed up pick-and-rolls from 16.8 to 20.4.". To me, that is where the post-up shots went.

And that's not been a bad thing

I don't see them fully going back to that last season stat on post ups. But we'd be closer to the middle than the bottom with Tatum/et al and Vooch inside now.

Vooch isn't Porzingis, but we don't need him to be. He just has to be a viable option.

It's an additional tool that's going to help in the playoffs and I don't see them abandoning what's worked well getting them this far, although now they have someone who will be ramping up to take Simons time, but with a lot more skills.

This season Brown has totally answered a question that we'd never know the answer to if Tatum hadn't gotten injured. He's the MVP though a lot of guys have really stepped up too.

IMO he answered that question during the 2024 playoffs.

Slow start but C's really got it going offensively, especially 3rd quarter.
The defense and offensive rebounding were both always there though from the opening tap. Theyve done this all season.
I haven't compared stats, but just watching tells me their offensive rebounding is better this year than last. This is huge, along with the defense and hustle.
Tatum really got it going 3rd qtr

Was there tonight and it was electric. The atmosphere was better than most playoff games I’ve been to.

Tatum’s return was phenomenal. To tear your ACL and return the very next season and look like he is 100% (when he gets his endurance up) is nothing short of amazing.

Thanks. Achilles.

Get JT back, lose Vooch for a month. Bummer. Such is the NBA.

Should be back for the playoffs and honestly I think Garza has done a much better job than expected. He was doing well when they went out and got Vuc. It’ll do for now as long as Queta doesn’t get hurt.

Can't lose Queta.

Did anyone else catch the Celtics/Cavaliers game? Was that a terribly refereed game or what? They blew a ton of calls on both sides. They missed fouls. They gave Mitchell his usual phantom fouls. They missed the ball hitting the rim. They missed a lot of obvious ones that really made you wonder if something was going on. It made for a fairly ugly game.

I didn't really notice. I thought it was a great game

I shouldn't complain, as the lack of calls favored the Celtics, particularly in the first half, when their defense swarmed the Cavs. But on replay there were tons of plays where both teams were rightfully complaining about the lack of a call. They "let them play", which is fine, but as I said, it makes for an ugly game, with players getting hacked on every play. It looked like it almost came to ahead on that Mitchell/Queta jump ball call in the 3rd (?) quarter. Queta was mugged coming down with a rebound, the refs disagreed and the players were getting hot.

It's a good warmup for the playoffs when the zebras tend to swallow whistles

I am not a fan of Stephen A at all but it was funny as hell hearing his rant yesterday. I just wish it got through to the NBA but I seriously doubt it.

I've ranted a bit about Bam getting the calls while Jaylen Brown gets T's instead. Did you see how many free throws he took the other night??? 43!!! The Celtics as a team are averaging 18.2 free throws per game this year, the lowest number of attempts per game in the league. They are averaging 8.8 less free throws than the Orlando Magic. Their only saving grace is that they are close to leading the league in the least number of fouls called against them. Whoopee - faint praise there.

But what this means is that the refs are swallowing their whistles when the Celtics play. They call less fouls on the Celtics and less fouls on the opposition. It somewhat makes sense as to why a lot of their games have so many questionable non-calls. It's because there are.

Stephen A was 100% correct.
"...but some rookie ref, with breath smelling
like Similac..." LOL!!
It was one of the most egregious and uncalled-for ejections I've ever seen- not just in NBA but in any sport

Last night's loss was another example of "you live by the 3, you die by the 3". Last night, they died by the 3. 13-42 from beyond the arc for a paltry 31% 3-point shooting percentage. PP was the biggest offender, shooting 2-9 (22%) but Scheierman (3-8, 35%), Hauser (2-8, 25%) and Brown (1-4, 25%) weren't much better.
