Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
LA has higher taxes but much better weather. Pats are closer to winning but that doesn’t matter all that much. Yeah if I was a 26 year old id probably lean LA for the nightlife endorsements and weather. But let’s see what happens.

If I had a choice between playing for Vrabel or Harbaugh I would take Vrabel every time.!

I disagree. If the player doesn’t want to be there they need to make it worth it to them to take that massive cap hit. Hence the first round pick. I feel the problem here as fans is that we were always spoiled to have Brady create weapons out of nowhere so they never really needed to invest in an offensive playmaker via trade other than Moss. This is kind of different. So would Philly take a 40 million dollar cap hit to get a 1st? Probably. But for a 3rd or 5th or whatever then no it wouldn’t make any sense.

You’re also dealing with a league where the cap hits suck but it’s not the end all be all. For example, Miami is probably releasing Tua which will probably cause the biggest cap hit in league history.

But if the Pats do get him there’s going to be people mad on this board that they didn’t either sign Pierce instead or didn’t just keep the room as is and hope Kyle Williams emerges. You can’t sit around and waste a QB on a rookie deal. It gets almost impossible to build a deep roster when they start getting top dollar. It worked with Brady because he always left money on the table. But yeah the board overrates players, we’re 10 months removed from people on here saying that they didn’t need Diggs because the Pats had Pop Douglas. I like Pop but he’s not that guy.

You are just wrong, and have no clue how the salary cap works. Philly already has $40 million in dead cap. They have to restructure and extend 4-5 main players still. AJ's dead cap is $43 million, and the others will be $20+ million. The salary cap is $302 million and you are saying it makes sense to have 1/3 of that go to dead cap. It makes no difference if you disagree. What I am stating is reality. It has nothing to do with a first round pick, Brady, or anything else you claim. You cannot compare Philly to Miami. Philly's window is open and can win a Super Bowl right now. That is what they are trying to do. Miami has no shot and is just starting another rebuild. They two are nowhere close to being the same.

I'm completely out on Brown. The price of draft picks and contract are too high, and he's about to hit 30 with a bad knee.
I think the knee is way overblown. If it was so bad NE wouldn’t be trying to acquire him. Vrabel isn’t trying to spend precious picks and tons of dollars on a hurt player.

You still have to give up valuable picks to get him when you can just sign a free agent instead. I wouldn't give up a first and more $$$ for Brown when you can get Pierce for just $$$.

Also i keep hearing that the knee was supposedly an issue while he was leaving Tennessee. If thats the case it certainly didn’t stop him from having some monster seasons in philly.

Looks like we will choose these following in addition to resigning Hawkins and chaisson.

Connor mcGovern
Tre Hendrickson
Alec Pierce
Boye Mafe
Cade Otton

Wildcard - Linderbaum but might be too expensive at 20-21 million AAV

I am thinking we sign 2 or 3 from the above 5. If pierce is not signing , maybe they just bolster the line .

I really want Alex pierce but guess he is going to chargers or 49ers.

I wouldn’t pay a 1st either but I don’t think it will actually cost that much. That is just Philly smoke.

I would prefer Pierce, but if all it cost was their 2nd that wouldn't hurt that much.

I doubt its just Philly smoke. In order to be willing to take that much dead money they need to be incentivized. I do not want them to trade for him

The incentive is to get out of paying him $30M this year in guaranteed money.

Thats fair but given that they are still a SB contender it doesn't make sense to me for them to accept only a 2nd even if a 4th is added

Unless they feel he is distracting and hurting Hurts’ play but I think they will keep him

I feel like there's a lot of negotiation and posturing going on. It's likely a 2nd would get it done but maybe the Patriots only want to give a 3rd this year or next year's 2nd. Philly might be shopping for better offers.

Cool. And I still disagree. But respect your take. If someone pays the price they want or exceed it then they’re taking the cap hit.

But I think a 1 and a 3 are too much
The odds that either play you get at a 1 and 3 are going to be better than Brown are low. People value draft picks way too much. In the last 12ish years maybe only Gonzalez is clearly on par with Brown as a player for whoever we took with our first draft pick we had. Maye if he proves he isn't a one year wonder would be the next. We got more value out of trading for Cooks with a first rounder (who is worse than Brown) than we have got with most of our first rounders.

especially a late 2nd

I’m also leery about dealing with Rosenbaum.

You are not going to snooker him in a deal.

Feels like we're going to box ourselves into either overpaying for Brown or giving our young QB little help at WR again...
