Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Just test the waters with pierce .

I am not sure aj Brown is greater than pick 31 + pierce . I would want eagles 3rd round pick back if we trade a 1 .

What EXACTLY does that mean?
1K , and consistently wh!ning is worth 30m?
This isn't Fantasy Football.

Thanks
Alec Pierce is likely to command 25 per year and although I think he’s a good wr he’s yet to become a wr1. 30 mil is the going rate nowadays.

Yeah he may have some character concerns but so did Diggs. If Vrabel (who’s coached him) wants him im good with it.

Yes, PHI would be willing to take the short-term hit. Please help me.

How does PHI fit the cap hit under the cap now and before the final cut?

I just don't see it.
===============
BTW, is it allowed for PHI and NE to agree to a trade that isn't effective until after June 1 and sign it then? Yes, PHI would owe the option, but it seems that this would work.

Of course, the first-round draft choice would be a 2027 draft choice and folks might stop jumping up and down. After all, a 2027 first is about equal to our 2026 2nd.
Our 2026 is 31. We will likely be picking in llw 20s next year. Giving them this years pick is preferable

I would rather have peirce and not trade a first and more, which is what it would take.
If you have a trade agreed for Brown and a contract agreed with Pierce, I tend to agree with you and go with Pierce. Just for the age and the draft asset you don’t have to give up.

Now officially you can’t talk with Alec Pierce so you don’t know for certain that you can get him.

So now what do you do if you don’t want to get Brown because you don’t want to trade asset and you can’t get Pierce because he either was using you to get more money from the Colts or he chose another team? We saw with Milton Williams that things can turn quick in free agency.

So in this scenario where I am sure to get AJ Brown but not 100% sure to get Pierce, I would get AJ Brown instead of waiting for Alec Pierce and striking out on both.

Also AJ Brown is a high volume guy so you can run your offense through him. I am not sure you can run your offense through Alec Pierce. So if you get Alec Pierce, you probably need to also get a chain mover/ high volume guy.

I just smoked 2 mega pancakes...fkn stuffed.
Guess I should read some more crap before I nap....

That would be crazy if we land AJ Brown before free agency even starts.
The Pats are leveraging Alec Pierce against Philly. “If you don’t send us Brown for a reasonable price now, we’ll just pay Pierce and move on.”

This is the reasoning why I think if Brown gets traded to NE it’ll be before Monday.

It’s reasonable. 31st pick for Brown is also reasonable. They need to upgrade the weapons for Drake Maye, he’s not Brady in the sense of he can take guys around him in year 3 and make them better, it has to be the weapons helping him to be better.

People should just stop now and save themselves from getting mad. Eagles aren't trading him for less than a haul of picks. They aren’t gonna take on an extra $20m cap hit for the 31st pick and a late 4th round pick.

If Brown gets traded it will be after June 1st or next off-season

You have no idea what you are talking about. Philly can't take our 2026 pick without triggering a massive $43 million dead cap hit. There is no way around it.

There is nothing reasonable about it for Philly.

I disagree. If the player doesn’t want to be there they need to make it worth it to them to take that massive cap hit. Hence the first round pick. I feel the problem here as fans is that we were always spoiled to have Brady create weapons out of nowhere so they never really needed to invest in an offensive playmaker via trade other than Moss. This is kind of different. So would Philly take a 40 million dollar cap hit to get a 1st? Probably. But for a 3rd or 5th or whatever then no it wouldn’t make any sense.

You’re also dealing with a league where the cap hits suck but it’s not the end all be all. For example, Miami is probably releasing Tua which will probably cause the biggest cap hit in league history.

But if the Pats do get him there’s going to be people mad on this board that they didn’t either sign Pierce instead or didn’t just keep the room as is and hope Kyle Williams emerges. You can’t sit around and waste a QB on a rookie deal. It gets almost impossible to build a deep roster when they start getting top dollar. It worked with Brady because he always left money on the table. But yeah the board overrates players, we’re 10 months removed from people on here saying that they didn’t need Diggs because the Pats had Pop Douglas. I like Pop but he’s not that guy.

I guess we are passing because A.J. Brown will be 29 at seasons end: not exactly spring chicken territory. So Alec Peirce it is.

I like AJ Brown but I'd be reluctant to give up much for him.

Despite the incredible year we just had, we have a roster full of pretty average players who clicked as a team and over performed. We need to add a lot of quality at almost every position group.

I would therefore be extremely hesitant to give up a bunch of picks for AJ Brown who, although he's proven to be a top 10 WR in the past, is realistically at the age where his best is behind him and is a diva and malcontent. Not to mention the money aspect of it, which would restrict our ability to strengthen significantly at other positions.

The Eagles think we're desperate to have him and will cave to their demands eventually, and they might be right. But I'd be happy to let them keep him and deal with the financial burden and nuisance that he's become there.

The Eagles locker room needs to be straightened out if they are going back to competing for Super Bowls. In spite of his obvious talent, Brown needs to go at all costs if there is going to be a culture reset. Until Maye has matured to the point where he is comfortable holding the other players accountable to meet HIS expectations over and above the coaching, I don't think the Pats are ready for a head case receiver. I had the same feeling about Diggs so who knows how Brown would act with this team under a coach he respects.
