Boston Herald reports what they heard at Combine

I like Klyes a lot and the nerdy stat boy feud between him and Lazar is low-key hilarious, but it's hard to tell how plugged into the team decision making Klyes is, which is where I like Callahan and Kyed.
Lol.. yeah I noticed that as well.. a battle of who's the smartest stat guy.. it gets even more hilarious when Barth is involved LOL... Vrabel seems to really like Kyle's from what I saw in there interactions over the course of the season.. when he interviewed Vrabel always seems to laugh and joke with him. But the big dogs are Curran and Callahan that are likely closer to the organization especially Curran.

All the crap about Crosby/ Hendrickson is just that .....

Crap.

We aren't wasting BIG $ on guys like that, and I'm happy about that.
Parsons, Hendrickson and Crosby have as many trophies as I do.
Would I love to have them? Yes...on a rookie contract.

Yeah, I think Klyes is the more acknowledged stat nerd which drives Lazar nuts with envy.

Do you think Curran is still the most plugged-in to the organization? I can't tell. I know Reiss often gets the scoop from the team first, but he doesn't do as much day-to-day, minute-to-minute reporting as he used to and very rarely wants to venture into what he thinks is going on.

On S Diggs I hope the plan is not to keep him at that price. The Pats should be doing some restructures. IF I was them I would go after Cade Otton contrary to what some PatsFans think. Hunter can't Block Henry is close to that TE playing cliff.

I think with Diggs, you have to be careful about how you approach him. He's not taking a pay cut. And petulant Diggs is not a good thing for the team. So does paying him mid-WR1 money on the hope that he stays a locker room leader and his knee improves make more sense than trying to find another WR1 in a free agency where there really isn't much available?

S Diggs is not Elite anymore: Edelman was way better as that age... he's carrying a Huge cap hit for a guy who's not even grades out as a solid #2 right now. Diggs ain't losing people out there Defenders are glued to him... color me not impressed.

Keep Diggs, he'll be even healthier next year.
People forget he came back really early from that surgery, and still grabbed a grand, while being a great teammate.
If he acts up later, cut him loose.
This isn't fkn rocket science unless you're a ****y, and Vrabes isn't a ****y

Do you see the WR corps we have a s better without him? Because, again, I don't think the Pats think they can find a better player to replace him with.

I'm going to hope we get lucky in this Draft also that Kyle Williams and Efton Chism both make that year two jumps.

33 year old S Diggs will not be hard to replace he's close to that WR cliff. He's been in this league for a while: they don't play forever you know. Newsflash He ain't that Minnesota or Buffalo S Diggs. That S Diggs is long gone: Maye needs more than a Average WR which Diggs is now.

I can understand going for someone like Otton over Likely for the blocking. I think I have posted several times that Otton would be my second choice behind Likely and that's really the big factor. I personally think Likely would be a good enough blocker and give you more as a receiver when given the chance to be the TE1 but I do understand the team's thinking there.

They have 3 big needs IMO - edge, tight end, guard. If they think they can fill the edge need in the draft, and sign Otton to fill the tight end need, I can get behind that - but they really should be signing a guard too. The currently rostered players won't cut it, and I'm not sure I want them starting another rookie next to Campbell.

I do wonder if their disinterest might be a signal that the Pats might be leaning toward keeping Bradbury at C and maybe keeping Wilson at G and seeing what they get in the draft. Or Kyed and Callahan just didn't get the dirt on the team's plans there.

I would add Young WR & RT in the Need Bracket too. Both positions have Starters long in the tooth.

This is a team that wants to build in the draft and have shown to be pretty good in the recent past. I know they want to see if K. Williams develops more. I don't really have a great sense of what they think of their OTs beyond the starters.

That’s what I like about Reiss. He doesn’t assume things and report it like fact. When he reports something, it is factual.

It's possible they just played their guard interest very close to the vest because there aren't as many high-end guards on the market - Alijah Vera-Tucker, Zion Johnson, Isaac Seumalo are the only really good players there as far as I can tell. Some other decent options but not locks to be good.

Yeah, that's entirely possible. That said, every reporter keeps saying to prepare for the Pats to not spend a lot of money on new players, so I'm trying to prepare myself to not be too surprised if they don't do anything there in free agency.

I do think it'll be a lighter spend year but they can't sit on their hands either. While they're not flush with cash, they have a decent amount, and then in 2027 & 2028 they're projected to have ~$345M cap space in those two seasons combined which puts them in the upper part of the league. Some of that will go to Gonzalez, but if they don't spend much this year then they will be sitting on a big cap pile in the next couple years.

I know a lot of people are talking about needing to get a blocking TE, but this team is severely lacking in explosiveness. We need a TE that teams have to game plan for, a matchup nightmare pass catching TE. Henry is a decent pass catcher, but he’s easy to take out of the game. He was a ghost in the SB. We need to get our young TE of the future. We’ve needed that since 2018.
