Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Any trade or cut can be designated as a post June 1st cut, no matter when the transaction is made.
====
Even if what you say is true, two teams could agree to sign a deal that is effective after June 1, again no matter when the actual agreement is mad.
======
I don't think that very many teams will feel pressure to trade for players now. First, a GM will see what is available in free agency.

Trades cannot be designated as post June 1. Thats only cuts. The difference is the cut receives the benefit if splitting the dead money and can happen pre June 1. If a player is traded pre June 1, 100% of the dead cap goes into this year. If the trade happens after June 1, then the dead money can be split. This is why I don't think AJ will be traded this year. Any trade for AJ would come before June 1, IMO and use 2026 draft capitol, which means Philly would be hit with $43,515,106 in dead cap added to their $40 mil in dead cap already. The most likely scenario is an AJ trade would come post June 1 so Philly could spread out the hit in 2 years, but that would take draft picks from 2026, not 2026. I don't think that Pats want that. Its late to build the team.

No one knows whether Vrabel is ready, even in the 2026 off-season, to move on from Barmore. I agree that this is likely his last year.

We'll see if Vrabel can do his magic and get any more DL players for little money. This is fine group to develop depending on the health of Tonga and Farmer. Obviously, we need to re-sign or replace Tonga in free agency.

THE 2025 HAUL
Tonga, Durden, Farmer, Gregory, Taylor
Well said!!.. there's also some smoke about him possibly being moved..but given Vrabel really likes him.. I think they probably give it one more season before making a decision.. unless something else off the Field comes up again.

As you perfectly stated it was a clear drop off from 2023 to now. Once we can add some edge rushers around Williams and Barmore we should see more production..
Barmore is redundant to Williams and it won't shock me if we see a surprise trade. Between the two, their 2026 cap hit is 15%. That's a lot for such little production. If there's an opportunity to use that money towards the edge for a Trey Hendrickson, Max Crosby, etc., I'd move Barmore yesterday.
Didn't berry have an injury? For some reason I thought it was an injury that affected his play?
He had Hodgkin's lymphoma at the end of 2014. Watching him at only age 30 trying desperately to cover Gronk in the 2018 AFCCG was tough to watch. He looked like a little kid hanging on his Dad's legs. He hasn't played since.

Ah.. that is right.. forgot all about his illness... yes Gronk on that 3rd down in the AFCCG was awesome... huge play for us... just saw Thibiduaux is up for trade.. he's a guy i wanted last season before the deadline.. say we can make that move.. do we include Barmore?

OK, if some crazy GM will accept the bonus payment, then yes a plane should be sent to meet that GM wherever for the signing.
It is worth taking on if it deflates his trade cost. It is not obscene.

This is the Year for Pats to trade their second rounder for Brown, given it is a very low 2nd rounder (almost a third).
I would also throw in a 6th, I think he has at least 3 good years left on his tread

Ross question?.so trades can seem to be happening now but not being official until the new league year??

I'm not a real fan of his. He's had bad seasons sandwiched with only one good season. I'd apply the money towards Hendrickson. He'd be a beast on a contending team for a short term.

But does he have even one good season left in his head?

If he has three good years left on his tread but his head goes sideways ten games into his first season because he’s not getting targeted enough is it a good deal to have traded for him and then extended him to a three year deal?

Why would the Eagles do that and add $43 million to their dead cap when they have $40 million already. If the cap hits $305, their dead cap would be 27% of the teams salary before extending a single player. They are projected to gain another $20 million for restructures, which means their dead cap would be over $103 mil, or 33% of cap space taken up by dead money. So please tell me how the Eagles get around this?

The playoffs were the tip of the iceberg. DB's were taking him out with ease - especially with the ****ty play of the OL. The one lone play in the Super Bowl people keep pointing to was a damn busted coverage. You could see he wasn't the same player all season long and isn't going to wake up and turn into Minnesota or Buffalo Diggs in 2026. He can't play the outside anymore and can't shake man coverage at all - which is essential for the slot.

Just saying: we faced some of the top DB's and defenses in the league. I'm not defending Diggs in anyway but those teams/DB's were a problem for most offenses they played. But yeah, Diggs and the rest of the offense weren't good against those defenses.

Understand... Hendrickson I like.. and he would help in the interim.. phil Perry reports the team plans to sign a guy or 2 in FA and draft a few.. they are making a concerted effort to address pass rush.. it takes this defense to another level.. being able to have a nice rotation of guys to throw at QBs.

Posters keep pointing to his "1,000 yards", but don't want to acknowledge he needed 17 games to do it and the majority of his yards came against the Bills, both Jets games (blowouts), Panthers (blowout) and the Ravens. The rest of the games left you wondering where the hell he was?

Why are you carrying a player limited to the slot at a $26.5M cap number who will take up 8.78% of the team's cap? You know how much cap space Edelman took up during his time in NE? The highest amount of cap he took up in a single year was a whopping 3.8%.

Welker was mostly in the high 3% as well except for his last year in 2012 at 7.8%.

BB took a lot of heat for letting Welker walk after the 2012 season, but he saw what many didn't. Welker's days were numbered and Edelman was on the verge of signing with the Giants had NE re-signed Welker. It would've been the wrong move.

We will find out Diggs' future soon:

"The Patriots will need to make a decision on Diggs soon. He will be guaranteed an extra $6 million if he is on the roster on March 13, and if the Patriots move on, they may need to strike in free agency early to replace him."

If we trade for one of AJ or BTJ.. I think we can say we likely move on from steph.. personally I want Stef here because I believe he's an excellent number 2 option and still has leadership abilities that translates through the entire locker room.. but if Vrabel sees different then I'm good with it.. nonetheless this roster is expect to be upgraded at pivotal spots.

I argued this same point yesterday in my conversation with @mgteich. We saw the best defensive teams in the entire NFL en route to the superbowl.. Seattle IMO was the lesser of those defensive teams.. seen as how Stafford diced them up.. our total ineptitude on defense made Seattle defense look much better than they realistically were. It was to easy for Seattle we handed it to them offensively.

Anyway I see your point and it's valid.

Best defenses and incredibly bad weather up to, but not including the superbowl.

I'm Ok if Vrabel wants Brown instead of Diggs.
======
It seems that my disagreement with you guys is a matter of focus and priority. For me, the extra picks and the extra $10M of AAV can be better spent on the OL, on a pass rusher, replacing and upgrading our free agents, and on an extension for Gonzalez.
========
I have ZERO question that the Offense would look much better with improvements to the OL and to various aspects of Maye's game.
=========
To be more obvious, I'd rather spend the pick on a future RG or RT starter and the extra cap money on an extension to Gonzo. [We even might spend some money on an upgrade to Pop].

To me, this is more valuable than the extra production from Brown compared to Diggs.
