PATRIOTS NEWS Looks like the Pats are re-signing Chaisson

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
Two years guaranteed is too much risk . We did not do the same to diggs. But yeah Carlton davis was looking like a bust signing and redeemed in post season.

Landry is prolly the only bad one.
I hated the Carlton Davis signing, but he had his best year of his career and allowed the least amount of yards at CB on the team.
He was pretty bad the first 8-10 games for whatever we paid him. It was not looking as value signing. I used to see him have too many penalties and missed assignments and lots of big yardage passes completed. I think he came on after 10th or 12th week.
I'll give you a mulligan on this. He gave up 114 yards less than Gonzalez and had 10 fewer attempts. He was a really solid #2 this year. And this is coming from a guy who talked a lot a **** on Davis this off-season.

No I am not denying that . I. Contrary I liked the signing in beginning, but first few games felt he was not much of a factor. But after that he became a vital cog especially on the tackles and the last 10 games had ocassional misses but otherwise was excellent .

Gonzo was Missing when we ran too much of zone and then when he had to do man coverage was a beast and in the super bowl would have been the MVP if we won it. That's how good he was.

Wilson was much better before the concussion than after. I thought he was pretty good up to then for a rookie playing out of position.

Signing a center, (let alone a huge $$$ signing) basically boxes Wilson out and into a swing backup position when really I thought he showed more considering what was asked of him. Remember it wasn't only Campbell who had a rookie playing beside him.

If the coaching staff thinks Wilson is only an NFL backup this early that's fine. But maybe they should try to rewrite Bradbury or bring in another veteran center in case Wilson fails, and rebuild both guard positions instead.
I agree. It is tough to know. I am not convinced the Pats coaching staff knows either. The Pats OL is still a mess.

The best guards are predominantly in R1 - the All-Pro guards. Linderbaum for instance. I would love to draft a R1 and R2 guard, and let Onwenu go and use his cap space to sign Linderbaum. Let Wilson, Brown, and the two rookie guards complete and hopefully we have great interior OL play for the first time in a long time. Add Campbell and maybe we have 4 out of the 5 OL positions solved, plus great backups. If we give Maye time he will be surgical, and we need to minimize the hits on his shoulder.

I am not a draft guru, I read what @manxman2601 and @mayoclinic say in the draft forum. Great guys and lots of fun reads over there.
I'd rather move Wilson to center and sign a solid vet guard to put between him and Campbell. I think that would solve a lot of the issues with both of them.

Huge risk moving Wilson to Center based on his performance at LG. The NFL game was too fast for Wilson, I am not sure why the game will slow down for him at Center. But maybe it works out, but there is a lot of risk involved for Drake's 3rd year.

Yes, it is huge risk to move Wilson to center with no other options at the position. However, we will still have Bradbury and Brown available as backups.

If we are going spend $20M AAV each on 2-3 players, it is simply a matter of the marginal value to the team. LG, C, EDGE and WR are all reasonable possibilities.

Because center is his position. He came into the league never having played guard.

Me as well rain... I admit...

One thing does bother me.

We had a long preseason. The coaching staff spent a lot of time evaluating all three possible centers. I recall many of us commenting on all three possibilities. As I recall, Wilson did NOT stand out. Bradbury was OK and Brown looked pretty good, certainly a competent backup.

It is certainly possible that the staff decided that Wilson is NOT a future NFL starter.

Of course, we all hope that this isn't true. We hope that the staff saw a great future in Wilson as a starter and center. He started at center since having him as a starter at LG gave us the best option at LG. As far as Wilson's future, the choice gave him the best chance for starting reps, since he likely wasn't ready to start instead of Bradbury.

But do moderators have the power to sanction violators of those rules?

I don't see any reason why Landry wouldn't want all the money coming to him. So it seems he'll be on the team the entire year which will be his last -- with a big contract, anyway.

Kind of a bad signing.
Let’s wait and see if he successfully rehabs after surgery and returns to pay at the same level next season.

It seems unlikely, but for now everything is just speculation.

No, full stop.

I would note Jennings contributes more than Ponder and Swinson, and will likely continue to do so.

A healthy Landry is a serious issue. If he doesn't project to be nearly 100%, I expect a midlevel signing AND a draft choice in the first 3 rounds.
Agreed. Jennings is solid,

I would have no stats to back me up offhand, but I would swear Davis also had the highest rate of total BS/GotoHell-influenced, as well as normal borderline BS, ref calls this season. So along with the stats you cited, he was pretty good.

For consideration: Moving from #1 on another team to #2 here means he played a lot more D-rt side, O-left side than he may have previously. IMO that SHOULD make no diff ( gotta know both), but some could think he might have a comfort zone or adaptation time reqd.

They went against 4 of the top defensive lines back to back during the playoffs.

Even during the dynasty's peak the OL struggled against lines like Denver, NY Giants, Baltimore.

He's a rookie who played preseason and playoffs, and was ok at the beginning.. Much longer season than ever before. And out of position.

Nearly everything is a risk season to season. The CBs are injury risks, the TEs are age risks. Drake Maye's shoulder might be a risk.

Have a 25th out of 32 veteran available in case, solidify positions around center, and give the kid a chance at his real position.

He projects better at Center then LG...which was the consensus going into the season. He played C in college but the NFL is a lot more complex. He was overwhelmed at times this season due to being a rookie....ditto for Campbell. 21 games is a loooong season. They will play better in 2026.

You know we're talking about Carlton Davis, right?

#1 starting CB on at least half the teams in the league Carlton Davis? Never mind being stuffed into the #2 spot.
He was always a handsy guy, but he played pretty damned well.

No idea what you expect from a starting corner if you think he was looking like anything in the neighborhood of 'bust'.

Anytime you have a true shutdown corner on one side the other corner is going to get a ton of **** thrown their way.

I think it’s funny, and I can appreciate, the fact that we are able to generate 8 pages of posts in less than 48 hours just from a player saying “I’m back” with zero additional context or news attached since then. Not being sarcastic, I love the participation lol

Given that he was headed for free agency the context is pretty clear, he is re-signing with the Patriots. The only questions are how much and how long?
