Trade Idea: Gonzo for MHJ & a 2nd and a 3rd

Well, he has maybe 1 more affordable year and then the 5th year option will be the somewhere between franchise and transition tag numbers, still a good deal for his level of play, but by no means cheap.

I cannot think of one shutdown corner that wouldn't be moved for 3 first rounders. If you combine the 3 with our own 1st, you can turn that into 2 pro-bowl level players. I mean Parsons went for 2 first plus a player. Or just draft and probably hit on 2 pro-bowlers out of 4 chances.

Don't get me wrong I love Gonzo, but there are so many options with that amount of picks, it would be really really hard to turn down.
The Patriots have historically been willing to pay top of the market salaries for top of the market players. They will pay 99th percentile salaries for 99th percentile players especially at high value positions. They will not pay 95th percentile salaries for 85th percentile players. Defensively having Gonzo makes the DC job SO MUCH EASIER as one problem can be solved by "Christian --- you take care of this... Good? OK BOSS!"

You don’t trade a guy like Gonzo when he’s still young and playing at a high level. I love Harrison, but not for Gonzo and whatever draft picks are thrown in.

I agree that MHJ could use a change in scenery but there are better ways to acquire him than dealing arguably the best corner in the game for him and some picks.

If we break this up into two trades, which one is supposed to make this make sense?

31 for Harrison
Gonzalez for 31, 34, 65

or

Gonzalez for 3, 34, 65
3 for Harrison (3 overall, not third round)

The Bills have been trying to get a #2CB for a half-decade, never mind a number 1.
Tre'Davious White was a legit #1 CB when healthy. First team all-pro in 2019 and 2 pro-bowls. I also believe Stefon Gilmore falls within the last decade for the Bills.

Why do people want to trade Gonzo? It's a passing league, you're dead if you can't stop the pass.

The whole winning formula in the modern NFL is pressuring the passer and stopping teams throwing the ball down the field.

It's much easier to find an MHJ than Gonzalez look at how many good WRs there are compared to corners.

Gonzo as a lockdown corner is way too valuable and MHJ isn't valuable enough right now. If it was Tet, maybe. But MHJ is a downgrade from Diggs at this point and and the 2nd and 3rd aren't high enough picks to offset that.

There's no real good trade. Gonzo is elite and you either need a near straight up trade for another elite player or you are are giving him up for potential, which isn't good enough. If Gonzo was maybe 27 or 28

I’m praying the Pats lock up Gonzo long term. So no, no way and I making this trade.

Now is the time to do it. Give him a huge extension and then by the time the big cap hits come due, the salary cap will be much larger.

Obviously in a perfect world we extend him 10 years and he retires a Patriot. That's just as much of a pipe dream as my trade idea though.

Stupid idea that will never happen

Brady, Gilmore, Wilfork, GRONK, Moss, Gostkowski all got paid as the top at their positions.

Correct.. I remember when we signed gilly it stirred up some feelings with butler in wich it was later discovered he turned down a huge contract extension from the patiots that year.. 2017..

Did you watch the Super Bowl? Gonzo was the best player on the field!

I was all over drafting MHJ, but I’m not trading Gonzo for him!

MHJ is in QB hell, let’s see what they do to replace Murray, but the Cardinals are going to need MHJ on the roster to entice a quality QB to sign with them

Would you consider it? Knowing he is going to cash in on that Super Bowl performance it would seem like a big ask for us to pay up.

Cardinals will continue to suck. Marvin might just need a change of scene.
No.

They're going to extend him 4-5 years and he'll be a Patriot well into his 30s. That's not including next year and the team option.

Once the defense went more man heavy in the playoffs gonzo was just a beast.. now that kurh has the official reigns I expect more man heavy coverage..
