2026 Draft: WR

I'm a little concerned about Tyren Montgomery's overall speed - a couple of times at the Senior bowl I've thought he didn't look that quick. The combine will be big for him. I do love his smoothness, route running and hands though.

Not sure why but Monty feels like a budget Michael Gallup to me.

I have given up on trying to predict WRs for the Pats because of the football IQ involved aside from the necessary WR skillset. The skillset part we are able to see on film, but the IQ piece is not always visible
Part of the mental side you can see on film is the effort and decision-making.

Drake Maye ain't like Tom Brady when it comes on to that: so I'm optimistic.

This is why I'm big on receivers who do all the important things well - blocking, hand catching, beating press etc - it just tells me that they take to coaching well.
I'll take em just being tall and duplicating what Barefoot does. I want a WR who can win on fades in the EZ: I think Maye would be Great with a Tall WR who can ball.

I like what Wolf - Cowden and Highsmith did last year: I was really high on Kyle Williams last year and they Drafted him. If it was BB you know what he would have done Draft a Kicker or Bust CB in the Third.

He isn't Brady, but he does the pass catchers to be where they are supposed to be when he wants them there. There is an article that outlines Mayes pass catcher only meetings where he explains to the pass catchers via practice film that if the WR/TE wants the ball they have to run the route a certain way to ensure they are where Maye wants them.

The mental part I am referring to is learning all of the WR rules (middle of field open vs closed, DB/LB leverages, being able to know plays and their code words, route adaptation based on coverage (cover 2 vs 3, 4, 6). Then be able to understand everything and playing without slowing down.

A buddy of mine is a college OC and loves the EP system but admits while its a lot for the QB but he told me that it is just as much for the WRs and he does not use it because some players just don't get it. Its easier to use verbiage that tells the WRs/TEs what route they are running.

Now if they get much of that don't get comfortable because with Josh the offense is going to be a little bit different next week. Diggs made the comment about it being a lot of memorization because he doesn't just need to know his route but needs to know what everyone else has. We have seen Kyle Williams not be in the right spot multiple times.

I'm just happy with Vrabel's philosophy in playing Rookies. I'll give KW a pass his Rookie year: yeah we saw him looked confused out there on occasion: but Maye missed him on some Potential Big ones too. So another year in the system should do the trick.

Yea, I am tickled by seeing how well Maye has taken control of the offense because its his 1st year in the system. I feel good about KW moving forward because of his WR skillset and the fact that he has some good vets around him. I have been a Booty fan from day 1 and am super impressed by how well he has picked up the offense.

I am pretty stoked about Maye, Booty and KW moving forward along with the youth on the OL with Campbell and Wilson (although I have been hard on Wilson at times).

With all due respect Aaron Dropson is a poor comparison: he never played Big. Also his speed or lack their of scared no one. Also Dropson's one Big game was a career day against Pitts...but that's all folks.

With all due respect, Dobson (that's his name; be more respectful -- remember, this is a real human being we're discussing) was probably a stronger prospect than Hurst: more catches, more yards, more TDs, and very solid testing. I like Hurst, and I'd be happy to draft him, but I'll bet he goes later than Dobson did, although I hope he has a better career. That's not a dig against Hurst, it's just a reminder that most players don't succeed and that the NFL is really difficult compared with college.

Sorry about that: it's funny how life goes Keenan Allen is still playing and came out that very same Draft Dobson did.

40 time will be key for him.

Via Gemini

Chase Roberts, a BYU wide receiver, has a projected 40-yard dash time of approximately 4.50 to 4.55 seconds for the NFL draft. While a 4.73-second time was recorded during his high school combine in 2018, his athleticism has improved, with a 36.3-inch vertical jump noted. He is listed at 6'4" and 210 lbs.

I like that 36" leap at 6'4" though.

Those are some nice highlights. A possible Mack Hollins replacement although I'd like to see grade better at run blocking. A good shout for that other thread though.

Yeah, he's 25-26. Probably a 4.5 guy.

We tried drafting WRs who claimed to make people in wheelchairs stand up. That didn't work out too well.

Now we're considering drafting geriagric WRs in wheelchairs. Scouting all the assisted living facilities, giving new meaning to the term "sleeper".

Not true, my pawpaw was able to stand up and curse at the TV multiple times when Baker did something wrong.
