Since 2019, in one way I was relieved not to have to stress in the postseason and especially in SB years.
For the last six years, I could actually watch the game with other people (I live in NYC, so not a lot of Pats fans around...I was so traumatized by the horns honking and people cheering in the streets after the Magic Helmet Catch that I didn't even look at a newspaper for an entire week...or at least until the damn parade was over.)
But now I'm back to my Dynasty Days SB weekend routine.
-Avoid sports media except for this Forum starting Saturday morning.
-Watch the game only with family.
-Ignore all the pregame nonsense on the day of the game.
-Turn my TV on at 10 in the morning on gameday to be sure my cable was working and then turn it off until 30 minutes before Kickoff and even then mute it until the coin toss.
-I'll make some snacks and have some drinks, but won't really enjoy them unless the Pats put the game away.
I don't recommend that as a practice, but it works for me.
Go Pats!
I live in NY as well (Long Island actually), but I’m in NYC 10 times a month for work. I believe there is a Patriot’s bar in Manhattan, just haven’t gone to it yet.
I wouldn’t call what I do during Pat’s games routines, I would call them crazy superstitions. I don’t wear Pat’s gear during the game, I’ve had bad luck doing that.
The Pats won their first 3 SB’s when I lived in the SF Bay Area. In 2007, I was back in NYC, I actually thought about going to SF to watch the game. Of course I didn’t go, and they lost. My family wanted me to watch the 2007 & 2011 SBs with them, but my logic was that they didn’t win when I watched with them, so I watched both alone. They lost both.
I started watching SBs with my family in the 2014 SB, and they won 3 out of 4 SBs. We would all sit in the same places (I insisted). In 2018, I had to take a bathroom break, and the Pats started doing well while I took a pee break, they were on their only TD drive, jokingly my family said, don’t come out (knowing how stupidstitious I am), the Pats are doing well, of course I didn’t come out until after they scored the TD (you’re welcome).
I am ridiculously superstitious. My mom gave me Patriots socks for Christmas in 2014. I wore them every Sunday game day since that Christmas, and they won every game. They lost their magic in 2015 and we lost the SB.
I’m not embarrassed by my superstitions, it’s who I am.
