I think you have to give him a ton of credit for just the overall situation he's stepped to in this year. Done an overall outstanding job in a tough situation. And it's definitely trending up at the right time. As far as this run specifically, there's the old saying of "styles make fights" and I think that's worked to our advantage.
The strengths of this defense are its man coverage in the secondary and it's interior DL play upfront. The weaknesses are safety/LB coverage and EDGE rush. You can try to compensate for the edge rush by blitzing more, but that leaves your LB/S coverage more susceptible. It frustrated a lot of fans all year, but that's why we played more zone than people wanted.
In our 3 game run so far, we've gotten favorable matchups of teams that don't really threaten you with TE/RB receiving threats the same way vs. LBs/Safeties. HOU had some early success on us going to Schultz, but he got hurt and that was all she wrote on that. It's allowed for the more aggressive blitzing packages and man coverage that has unlocked this defense.
Looking ahead to the Super Bowl, I think we matchup better with SEA for this reason than LAR. They have less receiving threats at TE/RB. That means we can still keep up the more blitz heavy, man coverage schemes that have been working for us.
