This clip has to be missing some context. No way Kraft is really saying what it sounds like he said here. And in a public interview.
Yeah this was obvious to me hereI took this to mean asking him if he did it in self defense and then if so saying they'd get a lawyer to help him prove that and how it was justified. Obviously did not prove to be the case here, but killing in self defense is a thing sometimes.

It would've been a weak case given the victim was clearly outnumbered and ambushed. The prosecution's case against Aaron was weak and he would've gotten acquitted had the rental car employee not found the used gum in the car. That's got to be the dumbest way to ever get caught.Yeah this was obvious to me here
Yeah nobody understands that type of world unless you live in it. Sucks but it's true. Most criminals are grade A stupid and thats why they get caught. It would've been a weak case given the victim was clearly outnumbered and ambushed. I don't think the context here was that he actually had a case for self defense. I believe the conversation kraft was recalling was before al the specifics came out. It was just after hearing the initial charges he asked Hernandez if he did it and let him know that if he did it for a "good reason" (which I believe he meant in self defense) he'd help him with the lawyers. It would've been a weak case given the victim was clearly outnumbered and ambushed. What would Hernandez be doing at that industrial site where Llyod was killed? The location of where the victim was found throws the defense question right out the door. Bob was baiting Aaron to see if he bite in telling the truth, but didn't.I don't think the context here was that he actually had a case for self defense. I think the context here is just that Kraft naively believed Hernandez was a good person who wouldn't kill someone out of evil like he did so he defaulted to "well if he did it then it must have been in self defense".
Again, no one is saying he has a good case for self defense or that it would hold up. You're story of "baiting him into telling the truth" story seems way off. The conversation Kraft is referencing here took place before the facts of who was where and when really got hashed out. He's not asking Hernandez this question from the place of someone who reviewed the case details and is trying to trap him. He's asking this after just hearing he got caught up in it and not being able to process that someone whose character he trusted would do this out of evil. He goes on to talk about how finding out Hernandez lied to him here once the details came out caused him to re-evaluate how he trusted people. What would Hernandez be doing at that industrial site where Llyod was killed? Yes, I believe in the immediate aftermath of the rumors coming about that Hernandez was involved in a murder he was working out at the team facility and that's where Kraft talked to him. If I recall correctly, this might have been before he was even arrested. So when exactly did he say that to Hernandez?
Is it possible it was before most of the damning facts came out and he was assuming Hernandez wasn't a reasonable person?
i think you got this completely wrong... i believe the memory Kraft is reflecting on was prior to all the details being released to the public... The team knew he was in trouble but absent the details of what actually transpired... i truly believe Kraft was being straightforward and honest about his initial interaction with AH when things started to come to light...What would Hernandez be doing at that industrial site where Llyod was killed? The location of where the victim was found throws the defense question right out the door. Bob was baiting Aaron to see if he bite in telling the truth, but didn't.
