I don’t know if this was mentioned in the thread about McDermott being fired but it seems to me it deserves a separate thread because Beane will still be there and he will clearly be pulling the strings of whoever gets hired as HC. The new Head Coach will be completely under his thumb. Having Pegula give him a public endorsement at the same time he fired Sean McDermott seems like a big deal to me.

Well,
Promote the cause of your problems and fire the HC 10 days after all the other firings and two days after the first quality stops on the COACHING CAROUSEL have taken place. Congratulations Josh …you are headed down the one way street named Andrew Luck Memorial Avenue of Ignominy.

Only one franchise I would more wan5 to wish this fate on. LOL

“Two of the top HC candidates have already taken jobs? Perfect time to fire our coach and promote the guy making awful roster decisions.”

On the off chance Bills fans haven't already been made aware of it by their brethren Sabres fans, this particular maneuver is known in hockey circles as The Full Pegula. Having now received their full dose, Bills fans can look forward to at least a decade of being bilked but at least they'll have that shiny new taxpayer funded building and those frame worthy PSL certificates

So Denzel Buston will be a Bill,,,

Could be funnier. Spanos waited nearly a month after Marlon McCrae's fumble to fire Marty Schottenheimer.

This screams backstabbing. I think Beane convinced management that McDermott was the problem as the media hyped up the Bills as one of the best teams in the NFL. However, I have no explanation on the promotion. He's been awful. In fact, if I were Josh Allen, I'd have a meeting with Ownership real quick.

The season was so bad that the head coach needed to be fired.

At the same time the season was so successful that the GM needed to be promoted and give more power.

Instead of "the beatings will continue until morale improves", we now have "the gaslighting will continue until you all agree with me".

So "bad" they went 12-5 and won a road playoff game. Two stupid moves I heartily endorse!

Anyone suggesting the Bills have been talent deficient either have no clue about “talent” or haven’t been paying attention to the Bills. They’ve consistently been one of the more talented teams since 2019 or 2021 at least.

The simple truth is Josh Allen sucked for his first two seasons (2018-2019) while he developed. Once he was good enough, the team always shot themselves in the foot in the postseason… I’d lay that squarely at the feet of the head coach.

They lost two prime years to development and overall team building. Then they paid Allen in 2022 and pushed some of his cap damage down the road. The Bills missed their window… but it wasn’t a lack of talent.

Now it’s harder to build a superteam around Allen, and he didn’t play well last game. He has been somewhat overrated, especially here when the Patriots were in the midst of 4 win seasons. I wouldn’t trade Josh Allen for Drake Maye straight up, even at identical money… no way. Give me the pure passer every time.

There is definitely a case to be made that Beane is not culpable for the HC not making the most of the talent he had to work with for the past three or four years. But my question is, does promoting him at the same time they fired McDermott make their gig less attractive to stronger candidates who may feel their roster building will be too dependent on their ability to kiss Beane’s tush?

If Davis Webb ends up getting that job - we're going to have a lot of answers as to who's actually running that show.

Great older coaches are going to want to hire the GM to work with them. They’ll need a younger guy with less juice.
