Highlights from last season:

Dude was a pick 6 machine here. Also remember he wasn't great under pressure going all the way back to Auburn.... case in point 11 sacks against Clemson. Hope that's the guy we see on Sunday. Has a good arm though and can run once in a while.

Honest question cause I haven't watched much of him since he left... how good is he now compared to other backups or starters in the league? I imagine he's better than Dobbs or what we saw yesterday from Stroud but that's probably not a high bar.

Hi SBB. I assume you mean how many GM's have drafted 3 QB's including backups who got their shot in a conference championship game due to injury to the starter on the same or different teams?

If I were to guess probably a lot of GMs...

Stidham is so good that he couldn't beat out Mac Jones or the corpse of Cam Newton for a starting job in the 2020/2021 seasons. Then he went to Vegas and couldn't beat Derek Carr, and then went to Denver and couldn't beat the corpse of Russell Wilson, and then last year/this year was passed up by Bo Nix who is just a slightly improved Mac Jones.

I'd love to know what happened between Brady's departure in March and Cam's signing in June. Did Bill really think Stid was the guy going into the season? And if he did what changed his mind?

I mean, Bo Nix was never what concerned me about Denver anyway, it was their defense and their home field advantage. Both of those things are still going to be there on Sunday, so I don't see a massive difference. I absolutely see no reason to think we've got this game in the bag, especially how sloppy Drake has been with the ball these two playoff games. And look, I love the kid but we've gotten extremely lucky those haven't bitten us in the ass so far. If we do that in Denver we might suffer yet another defeat in that house of horrors.

I believe third times the charm and prolly Maye plays lights out .. the offense owes the defense something and Josh could very well pull all his bag of tricks here.. if we sense a upset loss ..

Their run defense is suspect.. we need to do the jumbo package more... Getting back hollins will be huge..

Henry and henderson were practically useless the whole game and so was pop sans the TD pass.. so it would require the offense to really step up..

Given he put the franchise tag on Joe Thuney when we were strapped for cap space I am going to go with: yes.

But this is honestly pretty much the biggest question for BB after the Malcolm Butler benching.

What life is that? The one where he's 1-3 in career starts? Or some imaginary life where he has been a good starter for years but hasn't had that signature win?

It's unbelievable that people can convince themselves that a QB that has won ONE game in 7 years and has lost every single QB competition he has been a part of, is somehow some hidden gem, that's going to be unearthed at age 30, in an AFCCG, no less.

I can't imagine the dramatics about facing Josh Allen if the Bills won that game, if people are scared of Stidham, a guy that hasn't thrown a regular season pass in three years.

If you watch Stid in the preseason, he can operate the offense and make the plays.
He's obviously not a game changer, but he can manage the game... and likely better than either Stroud or Herbert did, because he won't have a ton of baggage or pressure for playoff failure. He'll be loose and loving the opportunity.
We just have to stay disciplined and not let their very good WR's beat us.

The is the ultimate curse of the former back up game. Stidham will absolutely want to spoil the Pats season while taking his team to the Super Bowl.

I expect Vrabel to attack the same way he did with Stroud making Stidham think quickly.

I'm not taking him lightly. Nobody thought AJ Feely was going to lead a game winning drive in 2004.

Pats were also a heavy favorite going into Denver in 2015 because Peyton couldn't throw a football.

Excellent question.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think the original plan was to bottom-out with Stidham (and Hoyer in case of injury), and draft a QB with a top-ten pick the following spring. But then Bill either got cold feet, or the competitive juices got flowing, and he signed Cam. Prior to that Newton was not a consideration by any of the 32 teams because of his injuries (arm wasn't the same after right shoulder surgery, then a Lisfanc fracture). It was assumed he was either done, or at best wouldn't be able to play 2021. Nobody even talked to him early in free agency, IIRC. It was rather odd because it happened so late - it's one thing to sign a FA in July; another to sign your starting QB that late.

I really just don't care about Stidham. Like @NovaScotiaPatsFan said, the matchup vs the Broncos offense was never about the QB in the first place, it was about their OL and Sean Payton's playcalling. QB was not a strength for Denver and it still is not.

Going from Nix to Stidham is probably not much of a downgrade, but it's certainly not an UPGRADE, as many are trying to convince themselves of.
