It really does not matter to me and probably not to BB, he took this franchise and turned it into a consistent winner, except for the last two years. Shula has two Superbowl Rings in six appearances.. BB has 6 rings in 9 appearances, plus two more when he was with the Giants. He is the architect of this dynasty..

All of this has been done in the post salary cap era, which makes it even more impressive.. Shula did not have any restraints on how much he could spend.

Unless there’s another cheating scandal that embarrasses the organization there is zero chance BB will be fired.

When his time comes he will step down by choice “officially”. Like Coughlin and the Giants. Behind the scenes they could nudge him out by giving GM and personnel duties to someone else and say he can stay as our HC to get the record and they know he wouldn’t agree to that.

Moot point since it’s not time yet. McDaniels and Patricia and Jr are not NFL caliber head coaches so there is no successor in mind. If there was it would be easier to move on.

I'm going to answer the question as honestly as I can...yes he definitely will, barring some unforeseen illness, but I'm not quite sure how long it will take him...I've been going back and forth on the timeline, but I'm thinking in 4-5 years the GOAT will have the record all to himself.

If it takes 5 years, I don't see it happening. That would mean a winning % of .500 (incl. remainder of this year). He won't last with that record.

He would be 74 yo and it's unlikely he coaches that long. Halas record (72+ yo) stood for 53 years and was only surpassed when they had Romeo Crennel (73+ yo) step in as interim coach when they fired O'Brian.

I think it's obvious now Bill regrets letting the GOAT walk out the door. Would have had that record easily if he stayed.

How many more wins do you think we would have had last year if Tom was our QB? I think with the lack of talent last year it was a miracle and an amazing job that we won 7 games...could TB have won many more, not sure if I can put a quantitative number on that. As far as this year goes, let's see where we end up at the end of the year. I think you have a better argument with the 6 games so far this year, and that's not a knock on Mac, it's just with TB, I know we wouldn't have had the conservative play calling and would have been in a better position to win more games.
Just my opinion ;)

Halas yes, Shula no.

I see 10 wins and possible playoffs in 2020.

I think we're 5-1 minimum so far with Brady. Bucs would probably still have Winston. Saints would have someone less. Cowboys game is 50-50. Pats would have clocked the Dolphins IMO.

Don't kid yourself; it absolutely, positively matters to Bill... Why in the world do you think he started Cam vs da Jete at the end of last season?

OK, so with Shula having 19 playoff wins (not 36), the difference currently is 34 games?

If we assume that difference will be 30 games (or fewer) by the end of this season (which may not be the case, but that doesn't seem unreasonable), the Patriots (assuming Belichick is coaching them) need to average 10 wins per season over the course of 3 seasons to catch Shula. If the team averages 7-8 wins, Belichick will need to stick around for about 4-5 years. Unless the team tanks and starts averaging fewer than 5 wins per year (which seems quite unlikely), Belichick would need to coach no more than 6 more seasons to catch Shula.

The worst case scenario has Belichick right around 75, and the best case scenario has him at 73. Given he's 69 right now. I really doubt he goes beyond 75, but based on his recent comments about late-60s feeling different than he expected, I don't think it's unreasonable that he coaches until he's 73-75 (if he's physically/mentally well enough to do so).
Well I think the best case scenario is the patriots returning to at or near the norm under belichick which would probably put them at 10-11 wins (8-9 more) this rebuilding year then 12-13 the next 2 which with playoff wins being the other variable puts him there somewhere late 2023 or early 2024 or 71-72. Your best case scenario going 4-7 the rest of this year and 10-7 for the next 3, hardly the best case for a guy who has averaged 13 wins a year as HC of NEP.

Because the purpose of playing a game is to win it and he thought that gave them the best chance to win.

This appears to be a false equivalency, based solely on conjecture and perhaps something the Felger or another sportstalk mediot uttered..

What probably matters more are Superbowls..

Its also easier when you have a goat QB, as we see now. Also, no a QB who has been on one team for 19 years and goes to a 7-9 team who has not won a playoff game in 18 years and wins the superbowl is a bigger feat. That would be like Bill going to the Jets last year and they win the superbowl.
It's harder to go play on a ready made stacked roster on both sides of the ball than it is to rebuild a team? Did those words really just leave your mouth?

I think it's obvious now Bill regrets letting the GOAT walk out the door. Would have had that record easily if he stayed.
Did he let him though? It sounds like Brady made the decision to move on and there wasn't much the Pats could have offered at that point

Mike McCarthy gets fired after another playoff time management issues. Bill pulls a Brady and leaves to go to a ready made to win roster, and averages 12 wins in the next 5 years before retiring. He did kiss the Jones’ ass before we played them…
