How does the 2019 team NOW compare to the 2007 team?

Edelman > Welker

Moss vs. Brown - push

Gordon > Stallworth

Dorsett > Gaffney (Dorsett already on pace to double the yards Gaffney had in 2007)

Edelman is the 2nd most clutch playoff receiver of all time, behind Jerry Rice. Brown is potential future HOFer. Gordon has HOF like ability, even if he doesn't make it because of his various issues and missed games.
Not so sure Edelman is better than Welker. 07 Welker was insane and dominated the playoffs.

Not to pee in anyone's Cheerios, but I really wish people would STFU about the 2007 team.

It's 2019. The Patriots are 2-0. On to the Jets.

I'd take the 2019 safety group of McCourty, Chung, Harmon, and Brooks over an ancient Harrison coming off injury, Big Bang Clock, James Sanders, and Eugene Wilson?

Jerry Rice has gone on record saying he cheated by using stickum. Also for the majority of his career he played with HOF QBs (even when he left the 49ers he played with Rich Gannon when Rich Gannon was an NFL MVP winner).

Randy on the other hand never cheated, played the majority of his career with garbage QBs while still posting the insane numbers he posted (hell, the first time he got a HOF qb he broke the record for most TDs in a season).

Not to mention Randy is the biggest athletic freak at WR in football history, the most exciting WR in football history, greatest hands in football history, greatest deep threat in football history, and even has a verb named after him (to Moss someone).

Yep definitely the GOAT receiver.

You're probably one of the few people in America who thinks Moss was greater than Rice. We make a big deal of playoffs around here, and Randy was not as nearly a good playoff WR as Rice. Rice has 5 Super Bowls, Moss 0. Randy had his opportunity to shine in 2007 and had a grand total of 1 TD during the playoffs. I love Randy and what he did here, but he is a top 5 receiver of all time, not the GOAT.

1. Playoff success is used mostly for coaches and quarterbacks. Playoff success for skill players is used as a cherry on top, not as a main argument. Especially when it comes to receivers aka the position that is the most dependent for other positions to succeed.

2. Jerry Rice has won 3 SBs, not 5.

3. Would Jerry Rice have won those 3 SBs if he wasn't playing with Joe Montana and Steve Young his entire career? How many would Randy Moss have if he was in Jerry's situation? Or how many would he have won if he played with Tom Brady for the majority of his career?

4. Would Jerry Rice have performed as well in the playoffs if he wasn't cheating by using stickum?

5. Why didn't you bring up any of the games where Randy went off during the playoffs? Or address any of the actual points I made?

Jerry Rice kills all other WRs in longevity. His even numbered and odd numbered seasons would have each made the hall separately.

Lol at saying 2019 WRs > 2007 WRs

OK here's the main argument: Rice had 7,000 more yards and 40 more TD's. That's not a cherry on top, that's the whole f-ing sundae. And unlike Moss, he played his career in the days before the NFL's rules change passing explosion in 2004.

It's obvious you never saw the man play.

Your main argument neglects the stickum and HOF quarterbacks for the majority of his career (not to mention having Bill Walsh as a coach helps too).

Imagine if Randy Moss had stickum, Joe Montana/Steve Young, and Bill Walsh. Or if he had stickum, Tom Brady, and Belichick for the majority of his career. Randy would easily have an extra 7,000 yards and 40 TDs.

And unlike Moss, he played his career in the days before the NFL's rules change passing explosion in 2004.

Randy Moss came into the league in 1998. He set the single season rookie TD record with 17 and was the main reason the 98 Vikings broke the record for most points in a season. Your pre-2004 argument holds no weight.

It's obvious you never saw the man play.

Who hasn't seen Jerry play? I swear people only resort to comments like this when they don't actually have any points to back up their arguments.

Btw since this thread became a Randy Moss vs Jerry Rice thread it's obvious the answer to the original op is the 2007 group of WRs is better due to none of the 2019 receivers being anywhere close to the conversation of this new debate.

Tank for Tua is okay, but the big-brain play is to pick up some top young talent in the draft next year, maybe even trade down some, and then Lose for Lawrence. Lawrence is the absolute prototype of an elite pocket passer.

lol..!! I destroy your thesis with the fact that Rice has 7,000 more yards and 40 more TD’s.

All you have is your lame “but... but... stickum! Stickum!” I swear people only resort to comments like this when they don't actually have any points to back up their arguments.

Rice is the best receiver of all-time and it isn’t a debate.

That said, Moss is so different from Rice that it’s almost like he is still uniquely recognized as the greatest at what he did. As a deep ball threat, “downfield” receiver it’s Moss and then everyone else.

Is Gonzo the best TE of all time?

Moss was such a great pickup for the Patriots and his skill was rare. With that said, Moss isn't Rice, period. You could argue the 'ifs' (if Moss had played with Brady his entire career, for example) but on paper Rice was notably superior. I don't see, given the paper evidence, how that can be argued.
