Patriots Trade for Michael Bennett

One thing to say about Brandon King:

We now have one Brandon, and one Malcolm, including variant spellings. We are so thin at both the Brandon and Malcolm positions that we would have to address either departure via the draft or FA.

Character seemed to matter to some of our fans when this dope was on other teams. Not so much now that he's a Patriot.
He has great character , in my opinion, it is just too many people suffer from Patriotic Correctness *and don't agree with his stance/viewpoint. It takes a very brave person to kneel during the Star Spangled Anthem knowing you will be criticized by people who refuse to empathize with others.

He is a damn good football player and a better person, with the added benefit of possibly convincing his brother to come back. Very excited to see him play with the Pats.

Patriotic Correctness -(a condition where people wave the flag and chant U-S-A, U-S-A and refuse to question our country's policies because it is easier to blame a protester or person with a grievance...some people call it nationalism, but I think it is fun to say Patriotic Correctness)

We already have people who knelt for the Anthem on our team and our QB has stated he supports them. I think most people can handle Bennett’s history with that.

I think more of the grumbling on here is due to the Vegas incident and allegedly running over the handicapped person during the Super Bowl, both of which have murky details and also leave a bad taste in my mouth depending on what actually happened in those cases.

We will learn a lot about the team's attitude if they sign a new deal with Michael Bennett, replacing his current contract with one including a bonus and incentives.

The $1M roster bonus should be due next week.

Personally, I expect that team expect him to be an important part of the defense. Belichick doesn't sign someone for $7.6M a year on a whim. BTW, Bennett is signed through 2020.

I bet you're one of those people who saw the heavily cut up tape released by the cops (what an unbiased source!) and immediately took to the forums boasting that there's "proof".

Been Googling and reading everything I could find on the guy. Where was he indicted on 16 counts in relation to the Vegas incident? And how do you know he did what Smollett did? Where do you even get that?

And how do you or anyone else know what happened in the Superbowl in Houston? We don't. Only the people there know - what they know, and what they "know" is probably severely limited given the confusion and craziness of the moment. Bennett's sister says she has video of them running down to the field, the case wasn't even filed for a year, and here we are, a year later still, and nothing's happened? I'll wait for the facts to make a judgment there, as I did with Edelman and the club incident - although I doubt anything will ever come of this at all. Bennett's attorney sounds like someone who's got video that will make prosecutors look rather stupid. Bottom line, though, unless he had video to the contrary, the Houston police chief was way out of line with his verbal bombs against Bennett. Way out of line.

In any case, the reading about Bennett has been enlightening, both regarding him and the reactions to him. One thing for sure, reading his quotes, he's quite intelligent - his brother didn't get all the brains.

As for him being a "piece of s***," as so many seem to say:

Michael Bennett’s Political Football

"He and Pele started a foundation focused on food justice, with programs in Seattle and Hawaii. They had two more daughters, Blake and Ollie, and began devoting more of their time to causes centered on women and girls. Bennett helped set up a nutrition camp on a Native American reservation and a coding camp in Senegal, and organized women’s-empowerment summits for young girls of color."

Well...

That New Yorker piece is the most comprehensive of anything I've read. Worth a few minutes of your day.

You won't find a post from me. I even said Bennet came across as reasonable in this quote. But since Bennett made the accusations, shouldn't video back up his story? Something...anything.

You are precious. Your preconceived bias cannot find any objectivity.

Everything I've seen on this tells me that both Bennett and the cops are right.

The video of him running...there were other people running, as well. The idea that because he ducked behind a slot machine, the cops thought he might be suspicious...they might. And he might have been trying to get some cover as he fled.

The frantic scene on the street - taken down, guns in your face...I can see Bennett's point here, and the residual anger and feeling of being victimized (and that after being terrified that he was in an active-shooter situation).

I can see the point of view of the cops, too, taking down a huge and strong man - and overwhelming and uncompromising force is usually the safest way to control a situation like that.

Sounds like a lot more could be resolved and accomplished in an incident like this with a little talking and explaining in a quiet room (instead of on the front pages).

A bunch of fans virtue signalling on a sports forum is not the same thing as character mattering in the NFL.

Worst Post of the Day. Congratulations.

I know this. The arresting officers were 2 Hispanic and 1 African American. He was later let go after they found who he was after a simple Google on their phone. He had NO ID on him. What kind of grown adult goes around without an ID? Seriously. He wasn't exactly swimming in only trunks in a pool. The casino had many African Americans present without issues on their part.

After the police investigation reviewed all video the findings were reported yet Bennett's tweet sat out there inflaming the public for weeks.

Um, per Mgteich, because you are a white.......attorney. Not so wise if you are a young black man.

I really hope you're just trying to troll with this nonsense.

I want the Patriots to redo his deal and give him more money over 2 years.
A happy motivated Michael Bennet is a one man wrecking crew who would really give a great return on investment.
To be honest as a top DL who can play inside and out and pressure the QB his market value is >>> his current deal
He is truly someone who CAN rush the passer!!
