OT: Jameis Winston suspended

Isn't this the type of situation where Fitzpatrick thrives? He'll do really well and next year he'll get a huge contract to be a starter, then he'll suck again.
That’s exactly what it is. :D But hey, for Tampa this could be great.

If you’re a betting man, put some money on them pulling an upset against Pittsburgh week 3. ;)

It's never the games you expect though. The media is well aware of this phenomenon and will be predicting a Steelers loss; naturally they'll win 38-17 and then lose whatever game is next.

With Winston suspended, you know what time it is for. Everyone's favorite:

Maybe he can partner with Hanley Ramirez and go to the "really stupid men recovery center"... what could he have possibly been thinking??

30 posts into this thread, nobody has done the standard oversell of how desperate the Bucs now are for a backup QB, thereby vastly overvaluing what we can offer them in a trade, so I'll go for it:

Well, with Winston out 3 games, the Bucs are going to be scrambling for a backup QB. How about we offer up Danny Etling for Gerald McCoy. Maybe we can throw in a conditional 7th round pick to make it happen. Thoughts?

Wow. This guy is already lucky to be walking around a free man after the whole sexual assault thing back when he was at Florida St.

McCoy is a 3rd pick in the draft selected to 6 straight pro-bowls. Last year his 6th pro-bowl with 6 sacks. Traded for a 7th round qb drafted last year who hasn't stepped onto the field. Sounds good .

serial sex offender Winston is not going to appeal the suspension.

This whole thing smells...bad.

First Off let me clearly state that IF Winston reached down and grabbed this woman as is alleged, he should be in jail! That is sexual assault, plain and simple.

So why has he not been arrested? Clearly he could be indicted for sexual assault, why has he not been criminally charged? Has the DA's office made any kind of announcement on the matter? (I admit I really haven't paid it that much attention).

So if the league believes that the allegation is true, why is he not suspended 6 games under the "Ray Rice" policy? This is the same league that suspended Rice 1 game for knocking out his fiancee in an elevator! The Giants kicker 1 game for beating his wife! Ray Lewis for 3 games for participating/covering up/or actually murdering two people. And of course Tom Brady for 4 games for his participation in a plan to deflate footballs that were actually deflated by the laws of nature.

Does anyone else see any issues with these rulings? So Brady appeals and ADMITS NO GUILT, has a Mulleresque investigation that ends with "more likely than not" which in legal terms equates to "we have no idea" and gets 4 games, and his reputation sent through the mud, while Winston allegedly grabs some Uber driver's privates and gets 3 games????????

The NFL should stick with suspending players only off actual criminal convictions (like Ray Lewis', who, I don't know if you guys know this or not, killed a guy(s)), and not conduct these bogus investigations on their own. Adrian Peterson ended up getting suspended a year for disciplining his kid, again, this is so arbitrary it is truly unfair to everyone.

I think he should’ve gotten the 6 games. I get that it happened before he was in the league, and that’s the case that they’re trying to make, but he still needs the same base of 6 games that everyone else gets. No excuse for it.

I’m not quite with the whole idea that he should be suspended altogether from the league, though. Damien Woody was calling for him to be cut this morning. Fact is the guy hasn’t gotten in trouble for anything else ever since he’s been in the NFL. So I wouldn’t go as far as that.

Dude definitely needs to be on thin ice, though. One more incident and I think the he should be kicked out.

This is just not feasible in today’s environment. If that was the rule, then neither Ray Rice nor Greg Hardy (whose conviction was overturned on appeal) would have been suspended. It would be all too easy for players to buy their way out of trouble like Hardy did.

Remember, this whole fiasco came about because of the public outcry that the NFL was too lenient on Ray Rice by only suspending him 2 games. Imagine the public reaction had they not suspended him at all....

What the NFL needs to do is keep the current policy with one major change: Institute an appeals process which involves a truly independent arbitrator. The league should not be both the prosecutor *and* the judge/jury. They also should have worked with the union in applying the new standards but I guess that ship has sailed.... although the upcoming new CBA certainly presents a chance for that...

I'm still waiting for the sexual assault NFL charge on Ezekiel Elliot!
