It’s a shame that the timing of their contracts and careers prevented them from retaining Garoppolo. If it had been 1-2 years different, the situation would likely appear to be rosier.Too bad the Pats don't have a young QB ready to take over
Unfortunately, there was no way to keep Garoppolo unless they decided to trade Brady, and that’s tough to do when he takes you to the SB 3x in 4 years and wins the MVP. As Belichick said, they’d have loved to have kept Jimmy, but the timeline just wouldn’t allow it. The only argument would’ve been to franchise him and pay him 23m or so, and that would’ve handcuffed them dramatically, in terms of building the team.
