Too bad the Pats don't have a young QB ready to take over
It’s a shame that the timing of their contracts and careers prevented them from retaining Garoppolo. If it had been 1-2 years different, the situation would likely appear to be rosier.

Unfortunately, there was no way to keep Garoppolo unless they decided to trade Brady, and that’s tough to do when he takes you to the SB 3x in 4 years and wins the MVP. As Belichick said, they’d have loved to have kept Jimmy, but the timeline just wouldn’t allow it. The only argument would’ve been to franchise him and pay him 23m or so, and that would’ve handcuffed them dramatically, in terms of building the team.

Facts don't matter to Garoppolinas. Their swarthy Italian NFLcrush got traded away so mean ol' man Brady could keep throwing footballs on his lawn and they'll never forgive him for that.

Meanwhile, over here in realityland, you don't ****ing trade the GOAT who just threw for 500 goddamn yards in the SB so you can keep a relatively unproven youngster no matter how much his handsomeness makes your heart palpitate.

The ONLY way trading him would be a mistake is if Brady retires in the next two seasons and the Pats don’t have another Lombardi to show for it.

Or if Garoppolo isn’t all that good

Time will tell but the early returns have been good. But yes, he certainly wouldn’t be the first QB in NFL history to start out hot and flame out once DCs adjusted to his strengths and learned his weaknesses better.

I really think the reason they haven't drafted a rookie QB is that their guy is on this list. Brady's up in 2020, and Belichick will move on to one of these guys. I've set that link up to just show QBs. Mariota? Prescott?

I hope you are not suggesting it is Brian Hoyer.

I think he's gone after this season........the bullsh1t going on now can't last for 2 years

No, looking at the list, I am thinking one of the younger guys. Mariota, Prescott, Gabbert? I have no idea, but the good thing is, I don't need to have an idea. I am quite confident the folks on down on Route 1 have a plan. I believe there's a chit ton of collusion in the NFL, and that someone has already reached out to one of the agents that has a guy on that list and said "don't sign anything without talking to us." No proof, mind you, just a real good conspiracy theory. I just don't think Belichick is going to leave this thing up to the crapshoot of the draft. I think he'll get a known commodity, one that's known in the league for being coach-able, one that puts in the necessary work in the film room, and then draft a young guy as heir to that guy.

I think was VERY bizarre that they didn't chose a QB in the first 4 rounds of the 2018 draft. This was one of the deepest QB drafts in ages. The constant trading down or out of the draft just seems to be counterproductive when it comes to the future success of the team AT the QB position.

What, the Oprah thing? Or is it the straws that changed your mind?

Him basically turning into something else since jimmy g was traded

Listen to the Peter king interview a year ago and the obrah one.

At this point, the Brady perspective is the only thing that has changed

Why would you take a QB you don’t feel can be as good as you need just because people call a draft deep.
All that means is there are a lot of guys people have different opinions about as longshots.

They either had their eyes on Mayfield or Darnold. Take your pick on which one. My guess is the former.

Because of the existence of the franchise tag, neither of those players will be both available and a worthy successor to the Brady throne. If they're available, that'll be because they weren't good enough for their teams to keep. If they're good enough for their teams to keep, they won't be available.

I did not think of the tag option. Good thing I am not the GM, eh?

Does anyone recall the Brady extension in 2016? Tom Brady He lowered his salary to virtually nothing in 2016 to minimize the looming suspension...and pushed it out to 2019?

Unless he can't physically do it, Brady is playing in 2019 for that $15+M he stashed away for then.

Good job mods
