As I posted on the other thread, I'm pretty confused by this move. With our lack of depth this makes no sense unless Branch is about to re-up.

either were trading Branch for another good WR or Branch is coming back..Childress wouldnt be cut like that after a great preseason

Smith outproduced Bethel last year, 5 catches to 4. Also returned kicks a few times, pretty solid average - 24.8. Huh. whatever.

I don't understand the move. But oh well.

Right now it looks like the Patriots will go into Week 1 with more TE's (4; Watson, Graham, Thomas, Mills) than WR's (3; Brown, Caldwell, Gabriel).

Any chance we can get Childress to the PS?

That sucks.

I guess there another waived player that they want. Kind of a low blow for Childress.

I hope this doesn't mean that Branch is coming back.

So lets see, We have Gabriel, Brown and Caldwell and rookie who hasn't seen the inside of an NFL stadium.

Here is a bit more on the 24-year-old Smith, who entered the league as a seventh-round choice in 2004. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Smith has totaled eight receptions for 77 yards, with one touchdown. He has six kickoff returns for 152 yards and 15 punt returns for 198 yards and one touchdown. His punt return for a touchdown came on a 70-yard return against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 14, 2004. In the 2006 preseason, Smith caught six passes for 48 yards and led the Bills with six punt returns for 29 yards.

Are you serious???

Branch coming back would be the best case scenario for this team right now. Regardless of how bad his agent is making him look right now (cut him Branch, cut him!), the Patriots need him back. He's been the best receiver during this Brady/Belichick era, and having him on the field makes the team better. I'd rather have him than Childress.

He's 5'10" 194...25 years old (or will be soon) from Georgia Tech..Bam will go to the PSqd..not sure what the deal is with him...obviously they like him..but???

Who the hell is this Smith (I thought another post said Sullivan, my bad) guy, and why does he deserve a spot over a guy that's been here and PRODUCED (albeit in preseason)?
