    Players have too much control

But the difference is that a team prospectively does not intend to lose a first rounder. They retrospectively bust all the time. The opportunity cost of lighting a pick on fire is the balance of success+bust rate - cap costs of not using that pick at the moment of the decision

    Players have too much control

Assuming he is a legit top 10 pick he has the leverage to take less money to end up where he wants. I would rather have that be transparent than implicit on blowing up on some interviews etc

Who do we draft #3 overall ?

If the rumors are true that the Commanders really like JJ McCarthy at 2 so the players available at 3 are Maye, Daniels, and Harrison --- should the Pats seek a trade to #4 or #5 to pick up a little bit of ammo AND still get one of those three? The incentive to move up from those teams would be...

    This years draft haul

No, 50% of picks are above median. Average is a function of the shape of the distribution.

    Patriots trade 5th Rounder

Patriots and Dolphins had a trade years ago where the Dolphins got the current year 3rd for their next year 2nd and that trade was a few days before the draft.

NFL, NFPLA release C19 protocols for the preseason

The NFL and NFLPA have just released their COVID protocols. Unvaccinated NFL players will have a much tougher time in 2021 The TLDR version is that no player is required to be vaccinated. There is just going to be massive costs to not be vaccinated in turns of daily testing, social activity...

NFL Changes the way it pays players salaries

Given that is the risk free rate of return, I think that is a defensible rate to use for this calculation.

NFL Changes the way it pays players salaries

@jmt57 run the math. There is a growing literature on the value of deferred payments from the workers' perspective. Most of that work is being down in the Global South with less developed banking industries but the fundamental insight is that Future Me can not trust Present Me to fully think...

Cannon Opts out [Update 9/4: Home listed for sale]

Let's see here; COVID-19 has known and unknown non-mortality related long term effects. Early evidence strongly suggests that post-hospitalization outcomes for individuals with COVID are not good with significant multi-month multi-system challenges for most individuals who are discharged from a...

Brady contract situation (Merged - UPDATED:Deal Done)

I figure that the contract structure will be effectively a series of one year deals with de facto mutual options that have rapid guarantees of base salary on the start of the league year and very little dead cap potential. Once the Patriots get past this year the cap gets a whole lot easier as...

    Cordarrelle Patterson to the Bears.

Probably would be worth a 6th.... Most likely cancelled out by a signing at some point

One that they could not resign without getting the rest of the team
