Guys like Bowden are why the Red Sox are still in the hunt for 1st place despite getting killed with injuries. He threw an excellent game tonight and probably could've gone out for one more inning if required.
Tonight couldn't have turned out better don't get me wrong, but I hope he doesn't have to stay up here long, he's not ready. He got very lucky that the ChiSox scouting report had him throwing fastball-curve to righties when he was mixing in the changeup and going after the first pitch strike so aggressively. He was leaving tons of stuff up in the zone. A rematch of that game next week and he gets shelled.
Chicken little? I've said repeatedly that the Sox are in good shape and will make the postseason. But I don't want this kid to start getting lit up, which he will if he stays up for an extended period.

I agree. The bottom line was good, 5 IP, 2 runs, but looking at his performance, he really was a pitch away from being a disaster. He was strictly FB, change. His change looks good though. He's not really overpowering at a consistent 92 mph, but his change has late movement. He looks to have a very solid arm.
Once again we call on our young pitchers for a spot start and they are able to come through. It really makes you appreciate how good we draft when we have players still in the minors that can come up and get us a key win.
