OT: WFAN reports Strahan announces retirement

Time to run away before you get "Stomped Out" by weak NFC competition this year.

Take your fluke ring and gimme sack record and go stuff a chicklet in that gap.

I think he realized last year was a fluke and they're not going to even come close to sniffing the SB this year so why not go out on top. Can't fault the guy.

I said he is good, he is not as great as they are making him out to be by the drive by media heads...

I also think there are about 4 or 5 better pass rushers than Strahan and one is Osi Uremorya his teamate.. He was good and because of the media will get in the HOF, but he is not a hof, its just like Bettis when the stillers won it..

IMO he is a good player, not great.. Not a HOF imo, he was more style than substance.. His mouth is maybee why Im not a fan..

Then your ignorance is getting in your way. He was as good as any DEFENSIVE player since the early 90's.

Emmit Smith, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Jerome Bettis. Thats the top 4 rushers of all-time.

Ray Lewis called, said to give him a buzz when you have a sec.

Does Ray Lewis hold any records?

Strahan was double/triple teamed on most plays throughout his entire career. Lewis had 350 pound defensive tackles keeping bodys off of him as he ran around free.

Does Strahan? Oh, or are we counting gifts? He holds the single season record for most int's by an MLB (if you want to cite records, Strahan only holds 1, and it's bogus, so the Ray Lewis garbage record is no more or less impressive imo), and led the league in tackles (his "prime" stat) 5 times. Strahan, on the other hand, by what I can find has only led in sacks (his "prime" stat) 2 times (2001, 2003). Not that we're talking apples to apples, I agree, but hard to say that Ray hasn't been at least as dominant at his position than Strahan at his.

Do you want to base it on "accolades" how about 1 DPOTY vs. 2?

9 Pro Bowls vs. 7 in a shorter career?

I don't disagree that the Gapper is HOF first ballot, but let's not put him on pedestals as "best in 18 years" without opening up a little valid debate at least.
[edited to add that you didn't elevate him to that status and did temper your praise to "as good as any defensive player" but your calling SPAPat ignorant skewed my perspective enough that I thought it warranted some devils advocacy points]

If you read my statement , I said he was GOOD.. , AGAIN HE IS NOT AS GREAT AS THE DRIVE BY MEDIA IS MAKING HIM OUT TO BE..

Sapp

Taylor

Kevin Greene

Derick Thomas

to name a few, Chris Doleman is also should be mentioned..

Defensive players?? too many to mention that are equal to Strahan, and one of them wore a Patriot uniform the last 2 yrs..

but he's not a scumbag..... and probably 50% of the league are scumbags. (i think im being really generous there)

i don't think he's too bad. the "we stomp you out" thing was annoying but they did win huge game, and pats players run their mouths too....

I wonder how many toothpicks i could collectively jam in between his horrendous-split overbite.

good career btw

Andre Tippett's sack numbers are even more impressive because he was rushing the passer from the offensive strong side, having to contend with both linemen and tight ends on nearly every play. Strahan has done the same thing in his career as well as being a strong defender against the run.

He was as versatile a DE in the league since he came in and finishes with all-time great numbers; he deserves to make it in on the first ballot.

Easy Hall of Famer. He's still playing great and could easily pad his stats.

Anyone see the ridiculous speculation from Florio? He thought Strahan could come back, but just retired this week so when he skips training camp he wont accumulate the $517k in fines he picked up last year.
