How on Earth can the Redskins not be offering a 2nd for Taylor? They need a DE in the worst way, and Snyder scorns draft picks anyway.

Not only that but by all accounts the guy is a model teammate, always brings it. There were some concerns with Moss, which is obviously why he went for a 4th. Taylor is a magnificent player.

If someone gets him for a late 2 that's highway robbery IMO.

He is on the last two throwaway years of a contract. The point is that no one wants to pay his salary AND pay a 2nd for the priviledge.

You have to question how much is left in the tank, I can see a third - though the third round is actually more valuable now that it's the start of Day Two.

I submitted a thread about a mock with a trade involving Taylor and it wasnt posted.....Anyways
Taylor kinda coasted last year, he and Zack are close(related even) and Zack took the year off because of a "migrane caused by a car accident"--(READ-lawyer told him to take time off to win the court case). Without Zack or a chance for the playoffs even Taylors play was lackluster. He is far from washed up, comparing him to Randy is a very fair comparison. He wants a RING in the worst way, and if we get permission to talk to him I can see him reworking his contract to play for a winner! Seriously! But the big IF, can we talk to him, can we work something out to involve picks?? Here is my mock lobbying for this trade:
Ryan is available at 7....

Pats get Taylor, #32 and the phins 09 #1(REY!)
Phins get #7(Ryan), 69, and our 09 #2

I LOVE Taylor, I think he's a tremendous player and I'm positive BB would find a great way to use him.

But at this point, if we trade for him, he's likely going to play split between DE and OLB. That gives us (for starting caliber guys):

OLB:
Taylor
Thomas
Vrabel
Hobson

ILB:
Bruschi

Now, Thomas, Vrabel, and Hobson can all play ILB, but we don't know what we're getting from Hobson yet, and both Vrabel and Thomas just seem more comfortable on the outside IMO.

I dunno, I like Taylor a lot, but I feel like that's a lot to give up (plus salary cap impact) for a player that I don't think really fits at this moment.

However, knowing me, if by the end of the day Taylor is a Patriot, I'll probably scare the crap out of my neighbors with my cheers

I think all Pats fans have a respect for Taylor b/c of the way he's played against us. He pretty much seems like a class act and a likable guy, making him hard to dislike as a Patsfan even though he's been such a beast again us. He's only a couple seasons removed from being the best defensive player in the league.

I don't think it's going to happen, but I don't think any pats fan would object if we swapped a third for Taylor. Anyone know what the salary implications would be? Upon the trade, could he rip up his contract a la Moss if he wanted?

How about a scenario which plays something like; Pats trade #7 to N.O. (receive #10, #78). Pats trade again to a middle of the draft, acquiring a 1, and 2 (or a low 3).
Pats then trade #1 with Miami for Jason Taylor. Miami swaps their two with our two (if this doesn't work we throw in our 3). We then have Miami's first pick in the second round to take a very good player, possibly a corner or an offensive lineman. We then have two low #3's to select whoever. Thus, depending on the corner, our defense is upgraded over last year. My first time with the charts and trade thread, so go easy on me.

The big trade question is this: assuming the price is a 3rd round pick, would us giving them Oakland's pick (69?) be enough of an upgrade over the other team's 3rd round picks to make up for trading Taylor to a division rival?

I would say probably not, meaning if everyone else is offering a third, even if we could give them a better third, we'd probably have to give up a 2nd to get them to hold their nose and face Taylor twice a year for the next 3+ years.
