I admit it, after watching the Red Sox come back on Sunday and the Celtics win Sunday night, I actually said to myself "Why cant the Patriots come through like the Red Sox"

I KNOW I KNOW, its B.S. but its there, visions of blown leads at the end of 2 seasons..coupled with the Sox becoming like Yankees used to be, late game rallies with a lights out closer....its weird. if the Sox win it this year they will have both won 3.

this isnt right, its should be the other way around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Im still not over it......

No kidding. I don't think anybody is. Until they win the next one, at least, but this will always leave a sour taste in my mouth.

But just think about how Sox fans regard Bill Buckner now that they've got 2 more rings. Winning cures all and 2008 looks to be an interesting year. Sans spygate, the Pats are still a very competitive team, and hopefully there will be fewer distractions.

add to that the bruins having tied up their series...

imagine if celts and bruins win....we will have 3 championships....

in everyting but profesional football...its unreal

If you're not over it then don't pull for this team - they obviously have caused too much heartache for you, I'd hate to see them cause any more.

Re: Im still not over it......

We’ve mastered the art of choking the last two seasons.

There is nothing else to describe blowing a 21-3 lead in the conference championship game and going 18-0 only to lose the final game of the season with a reciever wide open in the end zone.

Regardless of all the greatness that came before it - the endings to our 2006/2007 chapters have been absolute heartbreakers.

This season was basically an amazing joy ride that came to a sudden head on collision with an oncoming truck out of nowhere. The same truck that nearly hit us in Week 17 - but bearly avoided getting hit. Now the only question is, do you recover from the crash or remain paralyzed?

The draft is coming up - it's time to start thinking happy thoughts.

A real fan IS suffering, so I feel you on that one. This season can't begin soon enough.

I'm with you on this, I don't think I'll ever get over this one. It doesn't feel as bad as it did that night, but whenever I stop to think about how close we were to something really really special and how many chances we blew, it still hurts.

It is a great lesson in that you cannot win them all and that even your heroes can be beaten.

That being said I cannot wait for the next season to start.

Everyone reacts to these things differently. It doesn't prove that someone is or is not a "real fan" (whateverthehell that means) if they're still suffering or are already over it.

Me, I use repression. What Super Bowl?

I was over a buddies house Saturday night and ESPN showed a commercial about the draft highlighting Boss, Manning, Tyree, etc and I actually turned away from the tv screen; seeing those SB highlights was like watching a @#$%ing car wreck unfold right in front of me.

Losing that Super Bowl blows and will blow forever, I don't care how many more they end up winning, losing that one will always suck and never, ever go away.

Ever.

You'll never get over it. It'll get better over time. But it will never go away.

That was truly a depressing night. I didn't watch sports TV shows and stuff or read the sports section in the newspaper for over a week.

That weekend a kid died in a car accident and another kid whose one of my neighbors who was the driver got paralyzed in the accident. The whole town was pretty much depressed for a couple days and I guess I realized things could be worse for me than the Pats losing a football game. So that helped me to get over it.

The thing that bothered me the most was that the Pats had SO MANY chances to win the game, dropped interceptions and missed sacks etc. BLEH! I am glad the draft has arrived its time to feel good about something as a Pats fan. I agree with Double G, I saw that commercial and I had to change the channel. I couldn't bear even a commercial that went back to our choke.

Why do we keep re-hashing this??!!

If it makes you guys feel any better, I'm still somewhat bitter over SB31 moreso than I am this one. I dont know why, but I still cant stand anything GB. Maybe it was seeing all of those stupid cheesehead hats all over the place. Or maybe it was because I got plastered immediately following SB42 trying to forget.

So much for that.

5-0 loss tonight, yikes.

I don't know about that. I'm as die hard a Red Sox fan as there is, but I'm totally over the 1986 World Series. It's a bummer they didn't win, but *finally* they have managed, in my view, to erase that pain I bore for 1986. I look at the Buckner highlight and now, instead of kicking the television, I kind of chuckle. Maybe someday I'll feel the same about this past Super Bowl.

My view is this: It's *unbelievably* hard to win a championship in any sport...especially when the playoffs of that particular sport feature a one-and-done playoff system (NCAA basketball, NFL, etc.). We'll look back on these years as just an incredible time to be a Patriots fan...another title or two will cement this team as perhaps the greatest of all time, even without a 19-0 season.

I'm not suffering, am I not a real fan? It's 2008 boys, show up strong or don't show up at all.

Same here!! The success of the Bruins, Sox and Celtics has definitely taken the pain away from that lost Super Bowl. Just an awesome time to be a sports fan here in New England. Just doesn't get any better than this. Get over it kids!! No better example than what happened at Fenway the other night. The Bruins come from behind win is posted on the scoreboard. The crowd goes crazy and within 15 minutes the Sox go from one run down to two runs ahead and go on to win the game. Even better is when Jonathan Papelbon talked about the electricity in the park after the Bruins score was posted and how he just knew something good was going to happen after that. You guys have any idea how many sports fans around this country never get an experience like that? Ever????? Enjoy these days, including the Patriots and their painful 18 - 1 season, because these special times won't last forever.

I have made peace with it without the other Boston sports teams. I'm a freakin' Nats fan, talk about pain and suffering.

I disagree. We as fans who take sports and specifically the Pats this seriously are going to take a loss pretty hard, and in turn, it makes it sweeter when they do win. Last season was emotionally exhausting as a fan of this team for many reasons, and now we truly have some unfinished business. I'm not going to feel quite right about it until Week 1 and the season gets going - maybe the draft will help.

I take a different approach to it - I hear a lot how the Pats will "win it all again" and as you said it makes it sweeter "when they do win" - well, doesn't that kind of make pulling for a team....boring? Part of the joy of being a fan is not knowing what the heck is going to happen but you show up and watch anyway....and then you show up the next week....and the next year.....and so forth.
